Last season he was the man most likely to deliver a moment of class, but went missing in a scrap.. I'm not too bothered as Ferguson looks like an inspired signing...!
Very disappointing as I thought he still had a lot to give. Was our second top scorer last season and put in a good performance in the last two games, however, he has never quite been able to hold down a regular starting spot so can understand why he'd want to leave. He has a lot of ability. Shame it never quite worked out for him here.
Back in January he'd gone and arranged a move to Bolton without telling the club. He might have blindsided them if he hadn't got a quote for the move from one of the club's main sponsors...
Anyway, the club conceded that if he didn't want to be there they wouldn't force him to stay and then of course with all of the financial turmoil at Bolton the move fell through. Leading nicely to his small break from availability.
If you look back over his career he's never really settled anywhere long. 13 clubs now in 14 years...!
Personally I never thought he set the world alight. He always looked to me like someone that thought he could drop down a league and take life a little easier. Great touch, but the work rate only really returned this season when he had to fight for his place. At 33 and being a high earner I'm quite happy to see him go. We're hardly short of options at the moment...
If we can now move out Smith and Payne it will have been a good summer transfer wise big earners off the wage bill 3 of which Smith, Poleon and Payne not in the managers plans the only 1 i am sorry to see go is Fil and i wish him the very best of luck except against us obviously

I agree, but with the window now closed that will be a January exercise. A lot could happen between now and then.

pay them both off or cancel the contracts if they can get a club to take them or is that the same situation as we had with Cox when we signed him?

I don't understand all this hate for Jimmy Smith, and this desire to see him binned off. People saying he's not in the manager's plans, like they actually have a clue what GC thinks. We need Smith back in our midfield, he gets forward, knows how to score, and provides that link between defence and our forwards. He's a good leader too.
If Smith and Payne had followed Morais out the exit door, our midfield would be severely lacking in experience. Hopefully he'll get some game time soon.

i believe he’s on his way out or not going to play at all, as far as I know there was an updated team photo the other day and Smith is not included. He’s also said he is fit for selection but don’t quote me on that it’s what others have heard. I’d like to see him continue to play as with the departure of Filipe we now lack in central midfield. If Camara gets injured long term we could be in serious trouble.
I can confirm that Jimmy has said that he's fit to play, but to be fair to both him and Josh they have both also said that we have a strong squad and they've got to wait for their opportunity now to get back in. They were both very gracious about the situation when I've spoken to them and whilst it is clearly frustrating for both of them, they appreciate that it's a long season and the opportunities will come.

Good stuff, the right attitude from both of them. Too easy for some to sit back and collect their wage.

Yes that sums it up for me, nice fella, decent player but didn't want to be here, so we have to move on

Quite so, perhaps all those that think Smith and Payne should be in the side would like to say who they think should be dropped to make way for them and why
