The key sentence is "the club's main ambition this year is to achieve it's closest to self sustainability and to be competitive in the league".
Translate as Mr Eren is getting fed up sticking in £1 million a year to stand still and/or go backwards (we were 16th in L2 when he took over and are now 17th) and bearing in mind he is rarely seen at the club these days we need to start living within our means.
IF the aim is to break even then 50 points would actually be a decent achievement on the gates we get. The LC run won't have earnt much due to cheap tickets and no doubt the fines the club will get for events in the ground.
The first time I heard the fifty points mantra was from the boss of Willenhall ( blast from the past) I doubt he was the first to say it.
The thing was he said it ina positive sense. Roughly 'Every team is in the race to fifty points. If we get there quick enough we can have a tilt at the title'.
Not to forget that we (and Notts Co.) were relegated with 50 points a few years ago. Mind you, that is easier to achieve when four go down. With only one down this season, safety will be achieved with far fewer than 50 points.
50 points should be our first target, as it should be for every team in the league, BUT it should not be ONLY target. You have to aim to win the league every season, whether you do that or not does not necessarily mean the season is a failure, there’s various factors to take into account such as quality of squad and budget etc.
