For me there are some worrying signs from our recruitment, pre-season and the first game. There are also some plus points, such as Randall and Enzio showing the form he threatened to all last year. Harry moving him to the left worked well allowing him to cut inside and shoot. We seem to be playing the same style as last season so be interested to know views on where we can improve.
- In Harry's interview he seemed to be surprised that Vale played such a direct game and that we had all the play and somehow lost 3-1. From my view Vale were no more direct than 90% of the side we'll face. Certainly nothing like the likes of Carlisle or Cambridge. What they had was shape and organisation, and unless we play with a fast tempo like the first 15 mins of the second half our passing game will be completely ineffective due to lack of space.
- Don't give away cheap free kicks in your half. First two goals came from this (first one looked soft) and a large percentage of goals in league 2 come from this. Sides are so well drilled at delivery and filling the box, psosibly not something Harry would have experienced at academy level. Cut out the source, stay on your feet and defend properly. Last season we defended free kicks and corners well, we just game far too many away.
- Don't take off the only player that looks like scoring. To have the opposition fans laughing at us is never nice.
- Pre-season is the time to practice a plan B such as moving Yorwerth into midfield.
- Going back to tempo, someone with the energy of Kaby would be better suited than pushing a centre half forward.
- Maybe wait 5-10 mins after we have scored to get back in the game before making next sub
