The referee wasn't the best yesterday either I thought, was too slow responding to things and should have booked someone way before he actually did
We do always want to blame the ref!
Its strange, one of the crowd behind me thought he had done a good job letting play run and only later in the game did they think it was time for a card. I agree with you a card should have come out earlier as we were bullied and they got away with it BUT blame the players not Yems or the ref.
That was not good enough. Every time we get a few more home people to attend we give a powder puff performance up front. Why did Yems have Nadders on the bench? I felt sorry for Nicholls upfront usually on his own. Come on JY we were at home for FFS. Good to see JT back playing at last. I wish RGC could get 90 minutes but obviously he is still not 100%. I try not to call out players but what is the point of playing Powell? He was awful today even by his low standards. His corners and free kicks are poor and ineffective. The people around me today think he's Yems love child. On a positive note Archie Davies had his best game for Crawley today and for me was MoM .
yes I thought Archie was MOM as well - great to see him blossoming. Don't think I would blame Yems especially as Nadders didnt make any impact when he came on

I agree in that it was a lot more down to the way we played and the set up why we lost that game instead of the ref, only big call he had to make really was the penalty appeal in the first half. I just thought he wasn't able to keep up with the play as a referee should be able to do at this level, hence me saying he was pretty slow in making decisions. But he wasn't as bad as Kettle and Drysdale though (Drysdale's performance earlier this season was probably the worst I've ever seen from a referee in a game I've been to)

It was obvious at the time we needed someone up front who could inject a bit of pace especially later on in the game so definitely get the thinking behind leaving Nadesan on the bench and then bringing him on in the second half, unfortunately it didn't quite happen. Nichols can actually head the ball pretty well but if you're to play one guy up front on his own in this league you really need it to be someone who's strong and can bully defenders around, which Nichols isn't suited to (I think his best position is as an attacking midfielder or support striker). No one really made much of an effort to support him up front which was disappointing especially with the amount of crosses going in, I thought Tilley and Matthews as well as Powell didn't really perform and if I was the manager I'd be thinking about rotating them for the next game. I'm hoping the young lad Florian gets a few games before the end of the season as want to see what he's like and wherever he can offer something different in the midfield
Did I hear Yems take any responsibility for that dire performance? err, no!
not sure he had anything to apologise for?
Agreed, Westander; I am very fond of PP, when "The Grapes", my local, flourished and the land opposite still had the charm of the view over the former greenhouses, with the lovely sunsets as I sat on the old bench with my pint of brew, but not so fond of Yemsy's " bete noire" namesake, egregious specialist in being casually caustic.
The one element I think missing from the discussion is recognition that Tranmere are very good at what they do, which is press opponents hard, destroy what they do and then pick up the pieces with a good general like Spearing and the lad they had on the left wing who was very tricky. They aren’t a flash attacking team like Forest Green but what they do is very effective in winning matches in League 2. They will go up automatically I feel, even though you may feel they are ultimately a limited team.
Positives from the game for me is that we had our top defence on display and actually limited a good team to hardly any chances. Spearing’s free kick goal has been described as scruffy but for me there was a lot of cleverness testing us with the grass cutter. Powell also with a set piece put a much better chance on a plate for one of our centre backs (thought it was Lynch but one of the match reports said Tunnicliffe. That was the difference between the teams, hardly anything to have a big meltdown about.
Yems obviously has hyped up the woe after the game and he may have had sound man management reasons for that, so I’ll leave that to him. But for me it was one of those games where we could easily have got a point from and people would have been satisfied

vary balanced and thoughtful - agree with this summation but think Yems had a point that we weren't at the races for much of the game - we could and should have done better

Yes precisely. Can you imagine if it was us in second place going away to 12th place? Think of the “expectations” from some of our fans, almost demanding that we win because we’re second in the table. Well flip that around to what the actual position was and I’m sure Tranmere would’ve been favourites, their fans would’ve been hopeful of a win, many expecting to win…then throw in they’d only conceded 2 in their previous 9 games, and there was a always a high chance that they would win or at least not lose.
