Well yes, given how fickle fans are, I'd have thought a win in the most recent match would have meant a decent gate, but seemingly not.
I doubt one result will make a difference. Reality is our home results and performances have been so poor in 2017 that people have lost interest.
More than just 2017 probably? We have been providing pretty crap entertainment for the last 3 years and it will take more than the odd decent away performance (enjoyable as it was for those of us who could be bothered to go, I think we had half the amount at Barnet that we had a couple of seasons ago?) to drag them back in, particularly those dedicated armchair glory hunters on a Tuesday night. It has been a slow and steady trickle of people we lose every season and when they are gone it is twice as difficult to get them back?

I'm sure you are right.
Since we were relegated to L2 we have played 51 league games at the Broadfield, won only 17 (1 in 3) and scored 54 goals (so pretty much a goal a game). Not really the type of outcome that will have people flocking through the turnstiles I would say.
I shudder to think how many players have passed through the club in that time yet we have still ended up with a pretty mediocre squad.

The biggest shock with all of that is the fact we still managed not to get relegated back to non-league. How many of our nine lives have we used up now?
year 11/12 19 points after 10 games Year 12/13 19 points Year 13/14 16 points Year 14/15 13 points Year 15/16 9 points Year 16/17 15 points Year 17/18 10 points
That is the 2nd worst return of points for the first 10 games except for Mark Yates tenure
Interesting stats. The only thing that has remained consistent across those last four seasons has been that there has a campaign started, within a month of the season starting, to remove the manager at the helm.
It is getting so incredibly tedious. We need a period of stability across two or three years if we are to have any hope of progressing.

The other thing about this is that a decent start is usually essential to maintain supporter interest.
In our case we are IMHO unlikely to go up or down, we sacrificed the League Cup playing a reserve team, so really a decent FA Cup run becomes the most likely source of an upturn in interest.
Otherwise the season can largely be over by Christmas.
That was in 2006/7 and we were already non-league. Simon was referring to the period since being relegated to League Two.
That's nice. My point still stands though.
Seven years in the FL (which is a miracle in itself). I'd like us to get to ten at least. Whether that happens given our ever decreasing attendances, lack of serious investment, random transfer policy, constant changing of the manager, etc etc .......it's unlikely. I'm ever hopeful though.

I'd like to see what we could do with a good experienced lower league manager.
When you look back - Gregory had been out of the UK game for ages and spent years being fired from obscure teams in obscure countries. Saunders was a stop gap but hasn't lasted anywhere before or after. Drummy and Kewell had no league management experience.
That did leave Yates who I thought was stitched up really. 75% of the budget had been spent on JG's flops and remember his budget was £1m compared to £1.55m this season. Yes the football was average but if he had been allowed to build his own squad with the current budget then I think we would be doing better than we are.
Alternatively what happened to the manager who knew the town, the club and the fans as promised by our owners? It may be that HK was once seen buying duty frees at Gatwick but it wasn't quite the same...

If your point was about how many Football League survival lives have been used up, it physically cannot be more than two...neither of which could possibly have been under the Majeeds.
If your point is the last one you make, then yes it does stand, the turnover of managers and players in the last 4 summers might not be a recipe for success.
Talking of crowds when we were non league i seem ti recall we averaged 2200 the season we won the DML under francis Vines.Does that figure sound about right?
After the dross served up on Tuesday my brother, my friend Colin & I will not be attending today. We are all retired and each of us have been supporting Crawley for 50 plus years. We are sick and tired of spending our time and money on a team & manager stealing a wage. The football we were watching at Town Mead whilst fighting relegation from the Southern Leagues was ten times more entertaining that the current product the club have been offering for the last few seasons.
