I get a feeling the club is on the cusp on something really special. Of course all the crypto stuff is outta this league, but that aside, we aren't going to Edinburgh for a pasting or whiskey, but to test ourselves against one of the best teams on this Island. Pre-season has never been so interesting. KB could be an absolutely genius appointment. Proud to be a Crawley Town fan. Could be a really interesting season. Any more new players?; I wonder if there's one more big one coming? Ahead of myself? Dunno, but if I'm feeling it sober, bring the season on. Can't wait. Im sticking my head above the parafet and saying we are on the cusp of something really special.
Whatever people think of them, WAGMI seem to be going about things the right way in terms of fan engagement, player recruitment, improving the infrastructure etc. Things are looking up for the first time in a while. Still a bitter aftertaste from the way they (mis)handled the Yems situation, sadly.
But the new season is almost upon us, and there seems to be genuine excitement amongst the fanbase and a feeling that this could actually be a good season. Some decent new signings, cheaper ST prices leading to a big uptake in ST sales. Training camp in Spain, Adidas being our new kit supplier, signing last season's L2 top scorer and a kid on loan from Liverpool.......all seems a bit unreal tbh.
Some good signings on paper. Until we get into the season and the proper games are flowing we aren’t really going to know how a Betsy team will play or how it will stand up the others in L2. For me credit for Yems for putting a together a decent side on one of the lowest budgets in the league. The budget always held us back to put a promotion challenge along with a bad injury record. We had zero squad depth and the bench if we could fill it was no where near the standard. I feel if we add to the core of the side rather than having a post Yems clear out it could be a very good year. I think Yems played too direct for me considering we don’t have a target man and the players we have are actually very good technically. Managers dictate how we play not players. Us fans will play a big part as well. You have to expect Betsy will play in a similar vain to Harry Kewell both coming from u23 youth football. I’m sure everyone remembers the panic in the crowd everytime we got closed down at the back or in central midfield. That will happen a lot this season especially when teams get to know us. That panic from the crowd will translate to the pitch. The players need to be calm, confident and have belief to the system. I don’t know if it’s just that in general Crawley fans are not used to the passing game, but then we all follow a prem team too right? I won’t mention their name but when I go to watch premiership games there is zero panic when teams press and you get closed down. If happens and will cost you the odd goal every now and then. Happens at City, Liverpool and they just go again. We were playing some lovely stuff at the end of the Kewell era so the players can definitely adapt, can us fans adapt as well.

when i watch (shhh dont tell anyone) Brighton they mess about a lot at the back and Im obviously wanting them to win on those occasions and I can assure you Im not the only person in the crowd in a state of panic when the play out from the back. I personally think compared to other PL teams they arent that good at it and do sonetimes conceed or get lucky if they mess up and lose possession.
I must say Betsy comes across really well, and the acquisition of Dominic Telford is a statement signing. The various other things like kits, training in Spain etc all tick boxes that indicate the right approach across the club. The pitch also looked fantastic when I saw it the other night.
On the other hand over the years I can remember being at this point before with various managerial appointments including when Dermot was signing players like Dean Cox, James Collins, Alex Davey, Mitchell Beeney etc
Whatever happens, I hope fans show a bit of patience.

I think the main difference this time, compared to the last owners, is off the pitch the infrastructure seems to be being built to take us to the next level. Of course Preston is a gambling man and this new model they are trying to impose is almost completely unknow in professional football so it may either go very well or very badly. I think it will be an interesting ride whatever happens and it has been pretty interesting already before the new season has even begun. Although the last owners deserve a lot of credit for their achievements in stabilizing the club keeping us in this league and going through all the covid stuff.

Yep, fair point, a lot of things happen at football club which cost money but don't get seen.
Of course it's only the end result that matters, in that sense I still think time will treat Yems favourably, and people will come to realise that getting us to 12th in League 2 with the players he had available was a pretty decent achievement.

Potentially, even a few fans of other clubs in this division I've spoken to are somewhat starting to take notice, and one or two Carlisle fans I've seen are pretty worried about that first game. For me, if we start the season by winning up there for the first time in years then it's the clearest sign that a good season is going to happen

I'd argue James Collins isn't like the others there! but yes I agree lot of boxes being ticked but still we mustn't pile pressure on the new players or management, I'd be fine with a steady midtable start as we gel

Probably due to comments the Carlisle manager made about Crawley in a recent forum. See the question about 2hr 6min...

On the Cusp of Something Special with this Team. I was never a Fan of Yems Management Style but he was always a Good Scout. If the New Guy is a Better Manager than Yems then we Definately Finish Top3 with this Team for Sure! Hence I have Wagered Big Style Today @ 33/1 1/4 Odds 1,2,3. I am Sorry Guys but because of my Lofty Bet there is no more 33/1. You will ALL have to settle for 28/1 or 25/1 everywhere now!

Maybe you should have got on a treble then, you could have had Rooney as manager and Nichols to Sunderland, first thing to do with your winnings is to buy a starter book on the use of italics and capitals
