Genuine question, the press release for Caleb uses the phrase ‘obligation’ to buy and the same word is used in the video interview. I’ve not heard that term used before by clubs with loan signings - ‘option’ to buy seems the usual one. Is it intentional?

After a set amount of appearances, Crawley will be obliged to sign him

Darragh MacAnthony explained it on one of his podcasts.
It can be a straight obligation or an obligation based on different things (appearances, promotion etc). Usually its done this way for salary cap reasons perhaps right now we need Villa to pay part of his wages.
Fulham had an obligation to buy Anthony Knockaert from Brighton after loaning him during their 2020 promotion. The signing was done but they then loaned him to Forest a week later. Scott Parker thought his job was done....helped get them out of Championship but not good enough for PL.

And he's still there!!
Yep. 7 appearances last season and none this season (even against us). Still he must be on a good wage.
