No disgrace in that result. However that's it for the cups so now we need to grind it out in League 2, respectable finish and make further changes for next season.
It was the gameplan - defend deep and it worked. They had a couple of good chances they missed but it was a decent plan by Lewis.
When we brought on the cavalry near the end, our chances were good. Sod’s law they got what I think was a fortunate goal. The third at the end didn’t matter albeit a mistake by Jake H.
I think tonight showed with that wonderfully taken goal how much we are missing with not having Telford as part of the starting team, whoever solves that puzzle deserves the Crawley management job

Out of three cups in a week. Sucks, but there you go. We can concentrate on the league now, we have enough about us to pull clear of the relegation zone and move up the table. With all the managerial changes recently, it's all about steadying the ship and aiming for mid table. "Project Promotion" can wait until next season.

I also feel that being out of the cups is no bad thing in view of our league position. One big plus is that there are fewer games in which to pick up injuries - a problem that has blighted us for a while. Yes, I know I mess around about going for promotion, but a solid mid-table or lower half finish that doesn't involve frequent underwear changes is well within our ability.
Blimey! Just back from Burnley. Sons FC Jr and I decided to stay over rather than travel to Manchester after the game and go clubbing until the first train as some supporters did! good luck to them, I hope they got home safely.
As Steve says, we had a game plan to contain and frustrate and for the most part this was highly effective. The system worked...except for three individual errors leading to their goals - remember John Yems referring to individual errors rather than the failure of the system - that is exactly what happened.
Every single Crawley player deserves all the credit and plaudits we can give them - they stood up to a depleted, yet very strong, Burnley side for 80 minutes. There is no question that they were sharper, fitter and (way) more skilful than us but you would expect that from a recent premier league team.
Personally, I thought Lewis got the strategy spot on and you know, with a little luck, we could have come away with something.
There were over 300 Crawley fans there which is outstanding for a Tuesday night in November in Burnley and my goodness, the noise. The end we were in has great acoustics and it certainly sounded deafening to us. Non-stop support for the team throughout as you would all expect - in fact I think our chanting was louder after they scored their goals.
So, we settled in for a night of jeering the missed, wasted and spurned opportunities for Burnley...and there were many but they were repelled by the outstanding Joel Lynch and Harry Ransome, who more than made up for his uncertainty in the first half on Saturday. it was a great team effort though, shots were blocked by midfielders as equally as defenders and as a result Ellery actually had very little to do.
The only problem area was down our left where they had an outstanding winger and Nick struggled to contain him. As a result, he managed to put a fair amount of crosses into the box. Their main tactic though was the cut back and as soon as the defence figured this out, it stopped being as dangerous.
Then...then it happened. A long kick by Ellery, a wonderful first touch by Dom and he placed the ball past the keeper. Scenes beyond scenes, limbs beyond limbs, just unbelievable. We talked in the bar before the game about at least scoring a meaningful goal and what a goal. I had to pick two lads up who ended up horizontal in the row behind.
The celebrations had hardly calmed down when they scored...as they had threatened to do. Ashley Barnes slipped past the defence and met a free kick to send the ball away from Ellery and into the net. Cue even louder cheering for Crawley!
1-1 at half time and we were holding our own.
In the second half we had three fantastic chances. The first was when Caleb picked up the ball 10 yards into their half, turned and pressed on. At this stage we were two against two, Caleb and Dom. Caleb then got past another man leaving us with a two on one and the Burnley player hacked him down. Yellow card of course and let's be honest, however disappointing, we would always hope our player would do the same in similar circumstances.
We also had a direct free kick about 25 yards out and they brought everyone back. Unfortunately, Powell sent it well over the bar. Lewis had already made the changes by this point bringing on Nadz, Tom Nics, Hess and Powell and what a change it made - we were going for it. 2-1 down at the time we started to play much higher up the pitch and took the game to them to try to find an equaliser. Tom and Nick on our left worked a wonderful position, Tom played it into Nadz - two yards out, the whole goal to aim at and it just wasn't quite right for him - he tried a rabona and missed the ball - what a chance!
Then Hess dithered in midfield, was caught in possession and the third goal ended the game as a contest.
What a game - what a team. So very well done by each and every one of them - everyone there was proud of the effort that was put in and I cannot remember the last time I felt such a part of the whole set up - the fans, the team, Lewis - we were all there together and it nearly came off.
My Man of the match was probably Joel but it could have been any one of them.

Not surprising 'Man of the Match' was Lynch. 15 goals conceded in 7 games in charge is TOOOOO MANY!.
When a Manager comes along and puts Lynch & Ludwig in the Centre then we will be ok. Until then you must question the Management.
Also Lynch should be CAPTAIN. It is a No Brainer. Do not pass go - Do not collect 200!
Also we still need that Good Midfielder promised pre season by Wagmi, but looks like they are running short of cash! We atill have the worst Midfield in the Football League and the 2 managers so far this season havent even thought about putting our best midfielder in the position - FRANCOMB!
Fingers crossed for the above to happen and then we will climb the the table!
Lewis Young as Permanent Manager would be Another Disaster!
