Built on the performance against Newport and despite losing McNenery in the first half defended resolutely and played like an away side on the break - started to believe that they could get something out of the game and scored the two goals from counter attacking - got now to take these last two game performances in to next Saturday against Cheltenham - credit to the whole squad today never stopped trying and it got the home supporters back on side - thought that the referee got most decisions about right.
Credit to Cioffe as well - didn't panic and change the set up after McNenery was sent off - Sesay gave another terrific performance today.
I thought the red card was really harsh. He wasn't out of control and wasn't two footed. It was certainly no worse than the one on Gambin which was only given a yellow. Others behind me in the West Stand thought it was a nailed on red. Whatever you think it was a daft challenge to make at that part of the field. And then Conns got booked for dissent which could have been a disaster. But I struggle to have faith with teh officials (the linesman given a throw to the essex boys when everyone else (including the ref) heard the noise
excellent performance throughout though - for a team 4th in the table and up against 10 men for an hour Colchester barely troubled Glenn Morris. I couldn't have been the only one in the ground when Joe got sent off that was thinking if we were to get anything out the game then he would need to be MoM.
Playing on the break does really suit us - we do have pace in Gambin/Poleon/Grego-Cox and Panuche always has a trick or two up his sleeve
To back up a hard won point at Newport with a terrific win today is just the fillip we needed
From where I was sitting it looked like a definite red card but will be interesting if the club appeal this one - mind you Pell reactions probably made the referees mind up
It wasn’t a good tackle by Joe but not all bad tackles are sendings off - thought he was unlucky.
The “tell” for me was the ref allowing advantage. I’ve never seen that before after a tackle regarded as such serious foul play, the ref will always blow up straight away.
But the team rescued this bad piece of luck.
The height of the U’s team compared to ours was comical, all it surely took was well delivered set pieces and good crosses and surely we would lose easily, they had a header against the bar in the first half showing what would surely come.
Except it didn’t. I think the U’s got tactically confused because they are not by their nature a direct team, and their delivery was too often overhit or poor. They lacked a real playmaker to calm them down and the one they had Lapslie they took off and they became more headless chicken like.
Of course we were excellent denying space and Conns made the headers from the U’s balls that were directed ok.
I thought Bondz would have to come on to limit the height advantage but credit to Cioffi for his decisions and for the players for returning the faith shown in them.
Massive win as I think Cioffi had to win one of these two early home Jan games to keep the fans onside. He has done so and now has to reshape the squad to ensure we don’t have another slide down the table. Kewell brought in too many players who sit in the hospitality area every week, they need to go and 2-3 brought in to suit how Cioffi wants to play.
I thought Camera was magnificent today - the new Dannie Bullman. Poleon I am pleased for as he’s doing what he did in the opening day win at Cheltenham, harry the life out of defenders but can Gambin give him some shooting coaching? That two on two we didn’t take would be the talk of this messageboard if we hadn’t got the result.
Gambin is a huge find and hopefully Luton will get promoted and be keen to offload
Credit where it's due - that was a great result with 10 men. 4 points out of 6 takes off the pressure a bit with most of the teams at the bottom dropping points.
It's looking a bit bleak for Notts County, could be National League for them.

yes bizarre advantage played and therefore i was shocked he got a red card out.

We have shown again we are capable of producing results at home. I’ve said it prior to the last 2 results, we will get enough points to get us over the line and in the league by the end of the season, it may not be pretty, we may go on poor runs, but if we can get results without key players, we should be fine.

Ant, I’m as rose tinted as any...and I called red a full second before the ref blew (east stand central). Looked a terible tackle from our angle, no complaints with the red.

I agree it definitely looked a red... but what surprised me most after Pells reaction is that he got up with his leg still intact.!!
Sesay was very underrated, I’m not sure if he’s played a defensive role before but after Joe got sent off he slotted in and put in a good shift even when outnumbered due to Gambin making a run and tracking back.

He was MOTM in the Pompey Chekatrade game and he and Young should compete for the RB/RWB slot, Francomb looks a fish out of water on overlapping runs
Thought Polean was class yesterday in the 2nd half, he ran his shocks off and 100% was his best performance for us. Everyone yesterday played with heart and it was great to see, it has been lacking for months now. Gambin showed us what he can do if he isn't subbed off after 60 mins every time he starts. Bit concerned at lb, if Maguire's loan is up we need to get someone in.
A performance on Saturday to back it up is needed.

Good point that about Maguire, I was thinking his was a seasons loan but it expires today, is Sesay a possible left back?
Looking at the highlights I wonder if we were a bit lucky with the first goal, many referees would have given a free kick against Payne for his tackle and kick out at the Colchester player as the move started
