Just thought I'd start a thread for any interesting facts people find out about Crawley. For example, I learnt yesterday that every team Norwich played pre season (8) got promoted. Except one... Crawley!
That is a genuinely interesting fact rwatt, need to work in that Norwich themselves got promoted too.
I do have an interesting "fact" about our Club, but unfortunately it is based entirely on personal recollection & anecdotal evidence. Hopefully there are a few others out there who can recall it too...?
So, early 90's at Town Mead for a few games only, there was a hut by the gate to the side of the cow shed. This was, i was "reliably" informed at the time, an experiment, sanctioned by the football authorities, to assess the viability & impact of having an on-site bookie during a live football match...
...and was the first of its kind ever at any UK football ground.
I know it was there cos i placed a bet or two... or at least i am quite sincerely convinced that i did...!
Oh... and we did take part in the first (Jan 2018) professional football match to be halted temporarily by low flying drone...
...given that the town acquired global infamy for our association with drones & the closure of LGW, it is worth noting that we were the away side at Yeovil.

Yep, William Hill. And I believe the players used to bet on games as well...or at least Paul Fishenden did, according to his weekly column!

I am once again indebted to you JB.
Pleased it was bona fide. I had - over the years - started to ponder if it was all a bit of... erm... "private enterprise" from the likes of Maggsy or maybe "the bookies favourite" Andy Bell...(?)
Indeed I remember the bookies hut. Not being a betting type never used it. However having taken FNB jnr to games he nagged me to put bets on for him at Oxford & Old Trafford - Neither came in
The word of 2 such highly respected individuals as FNB & JB, must mean that it now qualifies as a genuine interesting FACT...(?) and first for our club (certainly nationally, possibly globally).
But unfortunately i cannot find any 3rd party reference to verify the matter, likely appears buried in an industry report or possibly a government green paper.

I could dig out the newspaper cuttings sometime.
Ah, and actually, in the MWB suite, legends pictures on the wall, the one of Tony Vessey (plus Fish and Colin Caulfield) - they are wearing the William Hill sponsored hoodies!
And of course, who could forget the William Hill Trophy!!!😳🙄
