Everyone moaning about the var decisions but if truth be told it is showing how much players got away with.
Yeah, it's harsh having to retake a penalty due to a matter of inches but how long have keepers completely ignored the rule about staying on their line?
The only problem I'm seeing is the refs are seemingly avoiding their responsibilities to award a foul or not and leaving it to the video ASSISTANT ref (capitals for emphasis).

Did they get away with it... or were those decisions simply too finely judged, to be confidently awarded with the naked eye...?
There is always invariably a degree of subjectivity - EVEN WITH VAR (apart from incidents that are totally binary (onside/offside etc) in nature) - I would not expect match officials to consistently get all decisions right and was always happy to accept that reality, as being an endemic part of the game...
Scotland vs. Argentina could be a cracker; there's a decent chance that a draw won't be any good to either of them so they'll probably both go for the win.
A cracker... but possibly for all the wrong reasons...?
No lack of drama... with a 3 goal lead being wiped out well into stoppage time, by a controversially awarded & twice taken penalty... putting VAR once again in the spotlight...!
Maybe we should dispense with human officials and have a self-serve checkout on the sideline making all the decisions.
If the goalies were keen to stay within the laws of the game they would have been practicing to dive from their goal line for a long long time. As it is they are taught to make a step forward before diving. In other words to break the rules. In fact the new law is actually kinder to keepers because you only have to have one foot on the line.
Now, referees not giving the foul is another matter and is probably down to lack of support when they get a decision wrong more than being too close to call.
I get it Jim, you can push your luck with the ref, you can't with VAR. I am just personally not convinced, that the cult of absolute accuracy actually improves or adds anything worthwhile to the sport...(?)
So, with VAR goalies cannot steal millimetres, Yet players have been nicking yards at throw-ins since the game first started. So what...!
Only seen one game in the WWC this year due to the timings, but have seen a lot where VAR is used due to watching the A League. I personally do not like it as it slows the game right down taking up to 5 minutes for some decisions to be made (not always the correct ones) but not sure if that is down to the poor standard of referring in the A League.
You guys will be able to assess the standard as Jarred Gillett, Australia's finest who reminds me of a young Gavin Ward, is on the Football League panel for next season. One of his finest moments was giving a penalty in the last minute of a Grand Final for an air shot by the cheat Berisha.

Not long at all really seeing as the law was only changed on June 1st
VAR is making the Cameroon game really funny, although diplomacy was probably evoked for the England penalty review as the Cameroonians would probably have walked off if it had been given !

Not sure about that Ant. I'm pretty sure the laws state the keeper had to be on the line when the penalty was taken since the year dot.
The new law states that only one foot needs to be on the line. That's better for keepers.
The England V Cameroon game was an absolute disgrace. The Cameroon players were hysterical lunatics. Spitting, off the ball fouls, crying, screaming hysterically and refusing to play after VAR decisions went against them. The referee was an absolute embarrassment, weak and ineffective. Missed a blatant red card for an elbow, even after a VAR review and failed to give a clear penalty and another red card after another off the ball foul, presumably because she was too weak to handle the backlash from the Cameroon players and staff. Absolutely useless referee who walked away and let the Cameroon players rant and rave without taking any control.
The game itself was very poor, the quality of football was ametur at best. England were clearly the better side though and played some nice passing football on occasions and in the end deserved to win for footballing and sporting reasons. I wish the England team the best of luck because if they come up against a half decent team they will need to be much better.
Players can sense a weak ref & unfortunately - a point Jim made - the officials appear to abdicate responsibility to VAR too frequently, which helps to erode their authority even further.
The further the WWC progresses, the more fractious it seems to get - shame really - as a lack of petulance & cynicism was always considered a positive aspect of their general play, that compared it favourably against their male peers.

Glad to see that womens football is within touching distance of the mens game, all that it needs now to be on a par is for a player to leap into the crowd feet first while reciting 'poetry'

Maybe you ought to consider the weekly list of complaints about referees and linesmen in the mens game, the endless foul mouthed comments about those officials made by the 'wronged' management, players and supporters, and you're worrying about an indirect freekick?
The BBC exists in order to broadcast to all viewers, not just to white, male football supporters, I would suggest that you do the same as I do, if I'm not interested I use the off button as, no doubt, many other people do if they dislike the (few) progammes that I watch
