New topic thread on official site. Makes for fantastic reading doesn’t it.
It could only be bettered had it been sold out with 1300 extra reds fans, regulars or not, housed in the KR-L .....not bloody Colchester fans. Home ends sold out pretty quickly. Seriously, why couldn’t we have given Colchester 600 seats and been done with it.
Their 1700 followers will make quite a noise, so let’s just hope we can be louder.
Funny isn't it? If someone had told you 2 short months ago that we would sell out a Tuesday night game against Colchester United you would have told them they were mad.
I've missed both the cup games, but my son's been to both and said the noise from our support was excellent for both. I'm sure this will be no different.
Not sure but for cup matches does the home team have to provide a certain percentage of capacity?
15% or thereabouts I think
Rule 23.2 states 10%. I suppose the ground could have been allocated differently to give Colchester only 600 tickets but maybe the logistics or safety certificate means it isn't possible.
On a different note, that same club release states that several online purchases were for the LEAGUE game in error, and that a refund could be sought, but no cup game ticket.
Maybe that's one reason why the home part of the "attendance" was so high?

I don’t think the club could have made it any clearer either with the icon added to the illustration on the on line screen.
C'est la vie. Probably a good thing for the club as I haven't seen us play well this season...I've seen us win but not play well.

I'll take not playing well and winning, it's a cup game after all!
exactly i dont care if we have no shot in the game but win 1-0 thanks to a pass deflected off the refs backside (& given new football laws on this/drop balls the ref is unaware and allows the goal to stand), winning and getting into the next round is all that matters.
Listening to Kelly's podcast it was too much of a risk financially if we didn't sell out, it might have been a big ask to shift another 1300 home tickets but we'll never know i guess. For those that haven't heard it I'd say it's more annoying that we've got the two rows in the east stand out of action which equate to about 380 seats - all because of red tape around health and safety. Due to increased security at this game we're just breaking even!

i find it hard to believe the club is just breaking even. I know we wouldnt have the same staff/security costs for say a EFL trophy or Sussex Snr Cup tie but that suggests these matches are run at some considerable loss?

Yeah i thought the same but if my memory serves me correctly from what she said in terms of profit we've made about 7k a game, which to me is only just breaking even all things considered. But apparently this time we are needing to get pyrodogs because of the last two round and also more police, i guess the reduced ticket prices don't help.

I imagine that is why in the past some SSC games have been switched. But the overheads must be much lower.
Also sold out and capacity crowd are different things. If this is another sub 4,000 "sell out" then gross revenue isn't exactly mega before costs are taken off and gate shared.
The big prize of course is a QF place, a big draw and perhaps some TV money.
