A Newport supporter told me that we were lively, fast and dangerous throughout and that this was not reflected in the official stats which show us having only one shot on target.
He felt that it was a point gained for them, although they could have snatched it at the end.
We have been playing well against teams across the table but we could do with reducing the number of goals conceded and I am sure we are all aware of the reasons and issues around this.
Good solid away point last night against a team who I think will be pushing for promotion. Well done the reds
Indeed. Just been looking at the table. Got to be reasonably happy with that away at a team in 5th, especially following what sounded like a very narrow defeat away at the 4th placed team. (BTW, really surprised to see Cheltenham where they are - thought they were the poorest away team I've seen at our place this season - although I haven't seen them all!).
Cheltenham had quite a few injuries at that time, even to the point of having Ince withdraw during the warm up. We would be facing quite a different side now as most of those players are back, apart from Reuben Reid who is obviously missing the recuperating effect of the vegan food at FGR! :-) An old player of ours is now on the bench there - Jonte Smith, and he got a hat trick in the cup win against West Ham U21s the other week.
Good point last night. We do seem to have developed a bit of metal these days.
Yes, I think you’re right Simon. I think we’ve only lost one game so far this season (including cup games) by more than one goal and that was the 3-1 away defeat against, at the time, league leaders FGR. Virtually all our games have been pretty tight. Hopefully we are now moving in the right direction and the days of us crumbling to heavy defeats will be few and far between.
