We speak to very reliable and direct sources. These are not rumours, this is information directly from staff members. We are not adding any content.
Until those sources are able to be named they are just rumours. The sources can be as strong as you like (I've had plenty of highly placed sources in the past) But until they are willing/able to go on the record it stays a rumour.

This is true.....it's why newspapers should really be called rumourpapers.
Not sure how accurate but I have just been told that they thought it had been Kelly's responsibility to ensure compliance (in the old days it would have been the football secretary?) so not necessarily a "scapegoat", but then until and unless we are told the truth we end up speculating. I must admit it did seem a bit strange when we had the two players missing for a league game and we couldnt understand why they were out for that particular game having played the week before without getting booked.
Whoever responsible it sounds a pretty serious oversight by somebody?
Extraordinary. I don't know if team lists and compliance were part of Kelly's roles and responsibilities but she was the club secretary and that function is usually retained by the secretary.
If that is the case, then a number of issues are relevant.
The FA keep an updated, real time suspension list active and available for all clubs - it takes moments to check. To miss it, or fail to check is disappointing as all the work is done for the clubs.
If we had won the match against Colchester, we would almost certainly have been thrown out the competition - how much more annoying would that have been?
We have been fined over £4,000 by the FA for breaching the rules.
Given that there is no prize money in the Carabao Cup, we relied on gate money split alone, given also that we reduced the prices considerably and the club stated that we broke even, this means that we sustained at least a £4,000 loss for the cup run.
If this was Kelly's responsibility, then there is really no other outcome other than dismissal.
This sort of thing really should not be happening with a professional football club. Its inexcusable and to think had we won we would've most likely been thrown out makes the match a non event. Dreadful state of affairs. What is essential now if the club make sure this is all watertight and nothing like this happens again. I'm not sure who is ultimately responsible but the fact that surely even the players themselves would know if they are banned makes it even more a mystery how this was allowed to take place. Seriously this is a huge huge blunder and it greatly annoys me that I paid to watch us progress in a competition and that was most likely never gonna happen as a result of this mistake/blunder call it what you like, somethings just simply should not happen and this is one of them, certainly not at this level.
Even if a sackable offence, it still doesn't excuse telling her colleagues that she was sacked before telling her. Also, if this is as reported, I don't think it would be classified as misconduct as it would need to be intentional. Therefore, pay in lieu of notice would be the norm. However, that is old information and legislation may have changed since. I never kept up to date.
Can you imagine if we had won the game and were looking forward to another trip to Old Trafford, only to be told we were being kicked out because of having two suspended players in the team?! Tinpot, us, never?

Suspect if we had won and missed a trip to Old Trafford, whoever was responsible might have seen for to resign anyway? Bigger clubs than us have fallen foul in the past, probably will again, unless teams are fed into a computer as a matter of process pre match. Do we have a football Secretary role anymore or was it one of KD tasks, if it was maybe partly a consequence of running the backroom on such a small staff?
Liverpool fielded an ineligible player earlier on in the competition and weren’t thrown out, so not sure we would have been had we beaten Colchester.
Circumstances are not the same.
Liverpool fielded a player without international clearance (not a suspended player). Penalty £200,000, half suspended.
Willand Rovers fielded a player without international clearance in the FA Trophy but were kicked out of the competition.
We played a suspended player, slightly different.
But I agree if could all have been expensive had we beaten Colchester.
To be honest I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. We have a first team squad of 31 players many of whom never play, but the off field side is run on a shoestring.

Wasnt it two suspended players (DB & Grego-Cox) which might be considered more than careless by the authorities!?
