Crawley Town play at home to Grimsby Town in League Two of the 2019/2020 season, SATURDAY 25th JANUARY 2020 3:00 pm kick off. Please keep all discussion about the match to this thread. Thank you and come on you Reds!
I went mental when Nadesan scored that goal, great game Grego-Cox really changed the tempo, just hope Palmer’s tweak is nothing serious. You reds, also agree with the pitch comments has complete turf care’s contract been cancelled or something?
Great entertaining match between two competitive teams. First half we went ahead through a well worked goal, but Grimsby pegged us back and went in at HT deservedly ahead. Second half was all us from the start we really gave it a good go, well worked equaliser with Nadesan using his pace to good effect and running through the Grimsby defence after their player slipped over and squared it to Palmer for a tap in. Then for the third goal Palmer returned he favour and held the ball up well after getting in behind and laid it off for Nadesan to smash in the winner!
A very enjoyable game that could have gone either way and one where he had to work hard for the win and held on at the end with about 3 goal saving blocks from a combination of our keeper and defenders. Grimsby are certainly not as poor as their current league position suggests and Holloway has already got them playing with vigour and intensity. Their no.9 Hanson was a real handful up the top and won the majority of duels with our centre halves and they had a few pacey players as well, but we upped it in the second half and they sat back and that's why I think we deserved to win in the end.
Palmer and Nadesan are linking up so much better now, it's like the good old days when we were flush with cash with Tubbs and Barnett or Tubbs and Mccallister. They are both playing well at the moment which makes such a difference. Nadesan has really improved his game, when he first came I didn't think he was up to this level, but now despite his low goal tally he looks a good player and his pace running into the channels and running with the ball particularly adds another dimension to out attack. Really pleased that he's making an impact now.
Defensively though still a few question marks. Two more goals conceded, but part of the blame for the first goal must lie at Morris' door, he should have pushed the ball out of the danger area or played it safe and knocked it behind for a goal, he also did that a few more times as well, for all his good saves he could have really cost us there. Centre backs were bullied by their no.9 as well.
The main things going forward is keeping Palmer and Nadesan on the pitch together, their understanding will get better and better the more they play together. Defensively, GK included, if we can cut out the mistakes we can look to really push up this league.

Yes worrying how bad the pitch looks, yes there's been lots of games recently with us the women playing on there, but it was nowhere near as bad the last few seasons. I got slated by a few people for questioning the state of the pitch on a certain Facebook group, but it's becoming so bad now that alarm bells must start ringing, not sure what's going on here?
My take on the game today First half although we took the lead with a good goal, I thought we were awful. No fluid play, players getting in each others way, shambolic at times. Grimesby's two goals were deserved BUT both were suspect with offsides, deffo the 2nd. Second half we came out and looked like a different team and battered the Fishy People, their centre half Pollock had the right moniker for sure, Ollie & Nadesan at last looked like a forward pairing. Nadesan had his best game for the Reds and was deservedly MoM. RGC made a difference when he came on for Panuche who I thought was well below par. Francombe had a good game possibly his best for us. Some negatives our two CB's sometimes don't look that solid. If fit I would prefer McNerney & CST. Lubala had a frustrating game and today I thought he couldn't beat an egg. Overall an entertaining game and a decent win in front of a decent crowd, fair play to the 500 odd Grimsby fans that made the journey. Already looking forward to next Saturday
Agree fab. Think Francomb works will as part of midfield, gives us another ball winner....I believe Big Joe is going to be out for a few weeks which is a great shame.
John Yems needs a contract beyond the end of the season to enable him to shape a team for the next year or two, I am sure there will be people he wishes to ship out and no doubt some he would like to bring in; without a longer term contact he is in a difficult position.
No need AT ALL to rush a contract for Yems he can have it on the drip like many others.
What a game and overall I have to say enjoyable, entertaining allbeit sometimes for the wrong reasons, the phone alarm over the PA drew the Grim Northerners to take the p1ss. The Reds work rate was faultless and Yems got the subs spot on. We now have two strikers that work well together. A couple of mitakes mostly poor judgement but overall Morris was my clear MOM. A string on outstanding saves. Ref was diabolical. We thoroughly deserved that win. Well done everyone at the club. Just the tonic required after the midweek shambles in the cup.
We need to find an alternative to Lubala he is just not delivering enough quality balls, he gets caught in possession too often, while he has energy and certain abilities being used as an impact player later in the game may be a better option.
