With club cricket getting the thumps up for small numbers of spectators (that bit made me laugh...do they ever get more than small numbers?) to return with the sport, could this be a clue of passage to re-open allowing football fans back? Starting with the Dog & Duck XI Reserves v Red Lion III, then all going well the Kings Head v Queens Arms, then finger x'd fans can watch the Spotted Cow v Woolpack Inn, then.....well that's the way the gradual approach most things seem to be taking. Not sure when we reach league 2!
NOW THIS IS THE MAD BIT: the government advises in recreational sports return ...
"Sports where a single ball needs to be touched by multiple players, such as basketball, cricket and football, need to include in their action plans how they will reduce the risk of this transmitting the virus – for example by cleaning when it goes out of play." Football is bad enough with all the stop start without adding more madcap ideas!
I dunno if you have ever bowled a cricket ball in anger George? But what players do to make it swing, is actually quite disgusting.
Essentially one side is kept dull, while the other is smeared with all manner of bodily secretions & then rubbed to a glossy shine with extreme vigour, usually in proximity to the bowlers sweaty groin.
When you factor in that bowling duties are rotated & fielders retrieving the ball often add their own contribution, the health risk is greater than dining on a dish of sweet & sour bat at Wuhan Market...!
