Thanks for all the responses here, very interesting to read. Crawley seems a fairly content place to be at the moment. Good to see you are attracting new season tickets as well, especially attracting fans of Prem clubs, surely the idea of being able to be a part of it all and close to the action for considerably less money must be appealing to some.
Opinion seems divided on Kewell understandably given his record. We have conceded 5 in 2 friendlies so far (but scored 6) so the defensive frailties seem to be there with regards getting average players to play a new system.
Our owner very much has a my way or the highway attitude (9 managers in 3 years attests to that) so the relationship with the chairman will be a very interesting one.
All the best for the new season and I hope that you can build on last year. Fingers crossed we can all get back in stadiums as soon as possible. We are on twitter under @ptb_oafc should anyone want to see more of what we do and give us a follow. While we are all oldham fans, we are very much campaigning for more sustainability in football to avoid a repeat of the Bury & Wigan situation.
I mean he improved us, not by a huge amount but it’s still something. There was always a touch of the big time Charlie about him which stopped much of a connection with fans
Our ST sales are slightly up at equivalent periods I think but I could be wrong
There was always a touch of the big time Charlie about him which stopped much of a connection with fans.
Very accurate, maybe his experiences since dumping us for "big club" Notts County, has introduced a spot of humility into the equation...
...cos he had the sort of persona that was very difficult to warm to, with a feeling that fans should not moan as we are bloomin' lucky to have someone of his calibre at our tin pot club in the 1st place... a situation not helped by his status as an antipodean national trinket...!
So the HK reign at Oldham has kicked off in a similar fashion as those with us and Notts County there's a surprise
Personally i hated his 'bland' of football trying to play premier league football with L2 players only an idiot would think that would work.
He always said he wanted to manage Liverpool one day we assumed it would be by going up through the leagues rather than move to a club closer to Liverpool than the last.
I doubt you will find a County fan who thought he was even average let alone good, all in all he was a failure at both clubs with the only decent things to come out of it were transfer fees for EB and HK himself I pity any club that thinks he is the answer
