I think John Gregory's problem was the same one that many managers have when they've played at the top level - they struggle to make sufficient adjustment for players who are a few tiers below the level they once played at. He would be a fairly decent PR man though.
Well they certainly have nothing to do with managing a football team. Talking bullshit maybe.
I remember JG always saying we trained like thoroughbreds.....too bad we played like a pub team on Saturdays.
I wonder if Emmett O'Connor and "Little Charlie Banya" are available?
If you had met John like I have you would know he talks a lot more sense than you for starters!
John was (and I’d imagine still is) a nice and thoroughly affable man to deal with, and his achievements in the game command a lot of respect. However, he did make some dubious signings in that summer of 2014 which Simon is alluding to.

To be honest, looking back the signings were not all horrendous. McLeod, Smith, Edwards, Young, Elliott.....we had more than enough to stay up in L1.
However nice John was as a guy he was a really poor manager, worst I have seen at Crawley, and if he hadn't been taken ill after 1 win in 12 he would surely have been sacked. I'm not sure why we appointed him tbh, both Derby and QPR let him go fairly quickly and he had been out of management for about 5 years when we came calling.
Even then he left the club without a fit GK, and to be honest it was a miracle that Dean Saunders got us as close to survival as he did with his group of loans, unattached players etc. Had it not been for that late collapse at Peterborough he would have done it.

Or the 97th minute equaliser by Deli Alli for MK Dons when Matt Harrold was in goal.
