Is is worth mentioning that no-one moaned about the changes he made a few days earlier...?
At Exeter we dropped two points as a direct result of a very rare misjudgement by our brilliant Keeper... however his status ensures that it does not diminish the esteem in which he is held whatsoever.
That is football, you make decisions & you live with the consequences, but invariably people only remember the ones that failed to succeed.
Unfortunately for our Head-Coach he has nowhere to hide when living with the consequences of his decisions. He needs to accept that part of the job description is that win, lose or draw you will be facing the media within half-hour of the final whistle & he need to better prepared at dealing with it.
I like that you got a mention on his reflections video on the OS. Didn’t realise he was a keen surfer of ctfc.net
I don't have a problem with the guy - he can dish it out and he can take it. I might have a problem if he could dish it out but couldn't take it. I realise he's not the most articulate, but I don't care about that.

Blimey, I did not know I'd been name checked until your post, just seen the interview in full as a consequence...
...think he is going back to when the forum bulletin board was the main focal point for fans exchanging views, in the days before Twitter & Facebook became business & marketing tools.
We first met back in the day when he was part of the coaching team & I was poster boy for discontent with the owners. Fair play, he was prepared to meet up with us & have a dialogue.
We developed a grudging respect as we were both direct & open with each other & both clearly loved the club.
I like the guy - never hidden the fact - but he needs to come to terms with his media responsibilities, cos I might appreciate that in private he talks like any other fan on the terrace, but he needs to modify it for public consumption but without being bland & boring like far too many others...!

Back in the day the Club had a policy of denying they ever read the wild ramblings & complete drivel posted therein... And yet somehow - magically - they always seemed to have a very good recall of all I had posted that offended them...(?)
I think his point was that it was easier back then with most of the criticism in one place..
Also nowadays with Social-Media accounts being official club communication tools, it kinda mixes the message & is not really impartial... whereas the forum is totally independent by & for the fans...!

I don't blame or criticize Yems at all for his comments. Reporters know that he is candid and straightforward. The questions he was asked were lazy, cliched and predictable - as is so often the case now. Most managers play the game and answer in equally ridiculous, meaningless cliches and get away with it.
It was ludicrous to ask someone like Yems questions that begin with phrases like, "eyebrows were raised", implying he knows better than the manager. What kind of answer did he expect from such a patronising and disrespectful question?
It is time to shake off the lethargy and the laziness and ask properly thought out, respectful questions.
JOHN YEMS RED ARMY!
Not sure the questions were last, cliched and predictable - certainly not the one about the substitutions.

Yep, I’m sure his loyalty to certain people back then is something he now looks back on with regret.

The ones about the substitutions were the worst and the ones that annoyed him the most. Ridiculous to start a question with a phrase like "eyebrows were raised".
The trouble is that the whole post match media ritual - questions & answers - are almost forced to be either tired & predictable...
...or risk being rude and/or controversial.
I thought the question was phrased well, insofar as it queried why a specific substitution was made, but framed it in the context of being puzzling to the man on the terrace.
Unfortunately, the response defensively focused on that context, rather than the actual nub of the question... But no-one can accuse His Grumpiness of being bland or cliched.

He was loyal to his employer JB, but was actually okay with us holding them to a higher standard. His one overriding theme was that we should never turn on the players & it was a consideration in why we never had a formal boycott (although many voted with their feet).
Having thought about it, the "right larf" reference by him, is likely a throwback to the good old "pirate ship" campaign, which was so good natured & surreal that even "the opposition" enjoyed it.

I didn't think the question was phrased in the "context of being puzzling...", it inferred that the reporter knew better than the manager and I am sure this is what annoyed John Yems the most. I am not surprised he was annoyed - that is a terrible questioning technique and the reporter should have known better.

Do two wrongs make a right? There is no escaping JY PR is awful. His coaching and managerial ability appears to stack up rather well against the many others that held that position before him and Im never gonna agree with everything he does or says but hey he is human and I kinda like that directness. Just there is a time and place to direct that openness. The more JY refers to monkeys the more the club becomes a zoo of uncaged animals all fighting for territory. Where exactly does the club slogan fit into all that?
