The draw for the 3rd round of the FA Cup takes place tomorrow night live on BT Sport and various social media channels.
Crawley are ball number 48.
Any other season I would be jumping on the ‘let’s get a premier league team’ bandwagon seen on this forum in the AFC Wimbledon match thread.
But not this season - no joy in playing away at a big club in front of what could possibly be a crowd of just a few thousand or no crowd at all if the home team is still in Tier 3 at the time. Also it would be gutting to draw a big club away and not have thousands of Crawley fans being able to attend and GH coaches not have the headache of organising several coaches. At best in the current restrictions we’d have about 300 fans in a crowd of 2000.
On this occasion only, I’d rather get a far easier tie, progress to round 4 and pick up the £82,000 prize money for doing so.
However hopefully by the 3rd round, restrictions would have been lifted even more and a bigger crowd home or away will be allowed.
As an aside, our home league match against Stevenage on Sat 9th January will be postponed as we (and Stevenage too with a great win against League 1 table toppers Hull) have both progressed to the next round.
So much would be different - if we drew a big PL team at home then we wouldn't have the sell out crowd it would otherwise be - and yes it would be gutting to get a tie that we cannot all attend. That all said, I am still drawn towards wanting Liverpool, Man City or Brighton at home. We would get a live TV broadcast and money from that - not sure if that would ring up more than the prize money for a win - but why not both? If we get an 'easy' draw we better win. If nothing else playing Torquay has shown us there are no east games in the FA Cup.
After coming back from going behind, in the two opening rounds we deserve a good tie. A top Premier league team at home please. Liverpool or Tottenham would do nicely.

Even if there was an attendance of 4000 I don’t think that we would be allowed any away fans attending - if we are allowed you can be sure that we will be on it straight away- even for one coach

Arsenal would be better as that's more likely to be winnable
Chorley v Derby County Marine v Tottenham Wolves v Palace Stockport County v West Ham United Oldham Athletic v AFC Bournemouth Man Utd v Watford Arsenal (holders) v Newcastle United Canvey Island OR Boreham Wood v Millwall Aston Villa v Liverpool Manchester City v Birmingham City Chelsea v Morecambe Newport County v Brighton and Hove Albion
No lockdown in January PLEASE - massive match and an opportunity to beat dirty Leeds United. What more can you possibly want from a cup draw? Reasonable chance get it live on TV - I see the 3 non-league teams being shown live and then perhaps us and Stockport.
