Certainly feels like a lack of ambition. I get the financial side of things, but he was going to be a big part of any push for the playoffs. Yes we’ve done ok without him, but that’s 3-4 games. I like Nadesan a lot, but I don’t think between him and Nichols, they have enough goals in them. This is the best position we’ve been in in years in the table, and this feels like the day we must finally accept we are never getting out of league 2
Or we could just wait and see who we bring in and how the next few games go...
Exactly, Yems and Bradbury have definitely put down their transfer targets to Erdem which we can secure in the window and Max’s fee will no doubt go towards acquiring them. I’m really happy the club put the appreciation for them both it’s nice to see.
It’s a million in, that’ll keep the club treading water for another year or so. Lack of ambition to go up.
There no lack of ambition at the club just stark financial reality.
Exactly that, the 'club treading water' routine is just another example of the lame cliches that so many people come out with, there's no point in having 'ambition' if you can't back it up and little clubs like CTFC haven't got the financial ability to do so
Can’t believe what I’m reading on here. If we have got anything close to 1m (plus any future add one?)what a fantastic result after 15 appearances from a signing most on here dismissed. I was very concerned for the future of many clubs and with this fee and the cup money it could turn out to be a very good season financially and lets not forget Crawley is a business that needs to balance its books. The main point is though, if the player wanted to move and lets face it he would be mad not to, how motivated would he then be for the rest of the season? What does the manager then do with a player that’s had a dream move and a ten fold salary increase blocked by the club. If he plays him could seriously damage our promotion chance and if he’s not playing his value is only going one way. From a playing point of view, we have just put in a run of possibly our best 3 results with away wins at F Green, Bolton and then Leeds all without Watters. So to dismiss our promotion chances is very defeatist and quite insulting to the other players. That’s nothing against Watters, has shown lethal finishing and wouldn’t shock me if one day we are watching him in the premier league. In my opinion losing Nichols would damage us more. Not only has he hit double figures, but is a target man, link up man, workhorse and has provided 6 league assists to Watters 0.

Good luck to Max but forget going up anywhere - slow crawl back to conference
I thought with everywhere being in “Lockdown”, why was Max actually allowed to travel?
JTG
There is an exemption for work travel if you can't work from home, and I guess his legs don't stretch as far as Cardiff. N.B. I'm allowed to travel to carry out my work too. I am a lone outdoor worker.

Well said, some realism👏
As I feared, people say they understand the club philosophy....until it comes to actually putting it into practice.
Those amongst us who are convinced that if we retained our current squad, we would definitely make the playoffs... Are you actually convinced enough - to the degree - that you believe the club should reject ANY current offer...? Even if just one of those offers is a guaranteed £1m...!

difficulty is we will never know the full extent of the offer i.e. figure, how it's calculated, made up, part payments, sell on clauses, appearances and so on. The other key ingredient is the financial side...what effect the pandemic has had and even without or losses and how the club balances the books or more money is flowing and particularly being ploughed in. It was early days with Max and it's hurt as a fan because I wanna see exciting football. Max was exciting to watch. The Barrow goals wet my appetite for sure. Where we are left is an punknown. Of course ultimately I want the club to progress and play at the highest level however to miss out attending a promotion campaign in the later stages would be awful. Ask any Liverpool fan that celebrated at home. Now, we just need a win against Stevenage with Tom and Ashley to score with newd in the background of perhaps another striker coming on board. Or, does John believe we have enough quality? A targetted figure of points for survival was always the number one priority. That we pursue on all fronts. Gamble 1m? Impossible to answer as I havnt the piggy bank in my hands to empty.
Before Max was seen as a million pound player we were constantly told by the owners 'dont worry we are in good financial position blah blah blah'so why sell now on verge of play off? Just watch our form dip now. Bye bye play offs.
But when they said that, few people expected Covid to go on so long and for us to still be behind closed doors into Feb (and probably the whole season).
In 2018/9 Mr Eren was putting in £1.3m (that's £3500 a day) when we had crowds. Now income is pretty much zero. Selling players is about survival at this stage.
I just hope we have got a good price for him. We have to have at least £1M minimum for a player of his age and potential. Just hope we haven’t been short sighted in cashing in too early. Good luck to Max, fantastic opportunity for him. Disappointing, but not unexpected or surprising. I just hope we don’t lose anymore players so we can mount a realistic play off charge.
Maybe a £1m deal, with money from appearances, promotion, sell on. He has great potential but the 16 goals for us are his only league goals and he has much to prove.
I can remember all the lines when Tubbs and Barnett left, and they both went backwards. Let's hope Max is different.
