Plenty of boos for more political knees today at Wembley. England have some friendlies coming up and we'll only hear more fans dissaproval. Time to stop taking the knee.
www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57370117 First we had that Man U flop of a striker meddling in politics now we had the England manager. The fans don't want it - get the message! No more taking the knee!

Possibly, but there is also a reasonable argument that neither set of actions were political: Rashford was focussed on getting schoolkids fed during school holidays. That this was a different stance from the government is by-the-by. Taking the knee can be argued as a way of expressing an objection to racism in football, which, in itself, is not political. It's unfortunate that taking the knee was the selected action as it reminded many of the USA and seems to be BLM's preferred method. BLM did appear to start dipping into political stuff that was probably outside its original remit.
It's my view that neither of the original core messages were intended to be political, but the meanings that others attached to those actions made them so. I accept there is a reasonable argument the other way too.
Strikes me that if you had - and I know that no person who uses this forum possibly has - racist sympathies...
...you would bleat on & on & on about the "politics" & disparage motives of individuals, they always do & always have done...
... the thing those making that point don't appear to grasp, is that it is their constant whining that becomes the fuel that keeps the debate alive...
...check out the dates of reactionary posts in this thread if you need further proof, it goes quiet, until a political point is made about not making political points..!
Why isnt Black Lives Matter talking about that massive fight un Hyde park? Video footage showing Black people beating and stabbing each other? Its hardly been on main stream media either.
Its all well and good taking the knee and doing interviews on Sky sports etc but why is no one talking about Hyde park??

Here's a proper and relevant question...
...why would anyone apparently so keen to keep politics out of sport... be so determined to selectively associate any of that with footballers taking a knee before kick off...?

I'm beginning to regret starting this thread, Thad. I thought it seemed reasonable at the time due to the wider discussion taking a different turn, but I got it wrong.

Paul - it's been interesting in the sense that it has confirmed what I knew already. That even in this tiny corner of the internet, and - dare I say - amongst the real people that sit around me at matches at the Broadfield - there are wildly differing and divided views over things that really matter in this world.
Think it really is best we stick to the football on here.
Pathetic support up North for the lions in the awful blue kit. Rashford and Mings need to put more effort in. Best players are Ben White and Jack Greaish and worst of all is taking the knee. Well done everyone that boo'd. You listening Southgate?

Lol. I'm sure there must be a few plastic chairs up there in Pease Pottage you could chuck around to vent your anger.
