...the game is too bland with clipboard refs these days, let’s have a few more characters who speak their mind, it’s football not lawn green bowls with Mabel and Doris.
No real problem there. It's not as if the ref thumped him. If a player had done the same he wouldn't have been punished.
EDIT: I only saw the video before posting the above and head contact wasn't clear on that. But I've just looked at the still photo in the link and that doesn't look good for the ref.
I once ran the line in a children's pre-season friendly. The kids were fine, but some of the parents were terrible to me. I happened to be there with a couple of friends whose kid was playing on a neighbouring pitch. As everyone agreed I was neutral, I ran the line. Never again. And that was when offside was easier to implement. I really thought one of the dad's was going to physically start on me, but he might have got the flag up his arse if he had. I have a lot of sympathy for referees.

Very good post, your writing style has clearly improved out of all recognition, I’m impressed
But, the Clown that is Mike Dean and his feeble VAR team still get away with giving wrong decisions (that were overturned) and still nothing is done to them.
All in all, the standard of refereeing is getting worse. How long will it be before the two @rseholes, Trevor Kettle and Brett Huxtable move up to the Premier League?

If found guilty, and it's hard to see how he won't, I imagine there will be a far worse punishment than for a player.
A question of balance, I personally think that Refs should be held to a higher standard...
...but it does risk criticism of them being aloof & unapproachable.
I respectfully disagree. I just feel that everybody should be held to the same standard.
This does produce a few conundrums. If opposition fans have a fight at the match they are normally banned from the ground for life. If two opposition players do it they get a three game ban. Not exactly fair on the fans that.
If police saw an assault outside a ground the perpetrator would be arrested. How often do footballers get arrested for deliberately kicking someone?
Mind you. I bet it would clean the game up really quickly if the star striker suddenly is not allowed to play ever again or has to spend three months road sweeping !

Okay, so would you therefore advocate that the police themselves only be held to the same standard as the person committing the assault outside the ground & the player deliberately kicking someone...?
