Do you make much use of loan players? At what level do they come from? Are they regulars in the first team?
Thanks
1. Yes very much so, especially for a club our size getting in some up and coming talent from a championship or prem side can really make the difference in a campaign. This season when he wasn’t injured Hesketh was key in our midfield. 2. The levels vary but sometimes out of favour players or players who don’t want to play for the club anymore go to other league two clubs. For example we got in Maguire Drew and loaned out Josh Doherty. Majority of the time though in the past our loans were from clubs higher up. 3. Yes most of the time they are regulars as they help fill gaps in our squad where quality may be lacking especially now since we’ve adopted a “Feeder club” mentality to keep us afloat we can lack in quality as the players are coming from conference or national league level and although they can improve to league two standard or higher as we have done with players in the past sometimes the players can’t make the jump or are not ready yet so loan players can be instrumental in a campaign. But the issue with that is the players we buy from a lower level then get less game time and you could argue they won’t improve if they don’t play regularly over the loan signing...
I suppose being close to London and having a population of many ex-Londoners has pros and cons to it. On the negative side it means that potential supporters go to London to watch the teams play that they were brought up with, rather than coming to watch Crawley. On the pro side, having so many clubs in an easy travelling distance possibly makes it easier to sign loan players.
I suppose it's all a gamble. Some loans have proved really good. Karlan Grant was far too good for L2. Plus over the years we had some good players at good times, like Richard Wood, Keith Keane, Ben Hamer, Freddie Woodman etc.
Some probably came too early. Beeney and Dixon from Chelsea and KaiKai/Boateng from Palace were like rabbits in the headlights.
And some were just a disappointment really. Dennon Lewis, Mason Bloomfield, Matty Willock.
Loan players are a problem for me. If they turn out to be fellow the level of the rest of the team you're stuck with them for a while. If they are on a level then they are taking the place of a full member of your squad. The real issue comes when they are above your level and drag your team to a promotion...then they are gone.
Personal opinion, I would restrict loans to holes in your squad that you cannot fill and, if possible, to a full season loan.
Historically Sutton rarely used the loan market. This season we were fortunate to get two good strikers on loan both scoring regularly. We just hope we can keep them for the coming season. I would imagine most of the regulars from this season will figure in the 21/22 season.

Thinking of Sutton, one of our less successful loans was Jeffrey Monakana who I think drifted through Sutton too.....
