Funny comment on Sky Sports News this morning , the reporter was at Spurs Training Ground , where they have a 5 star hotel and where Italy have been training and staying.
The reporter stated that it was a good omen for England that Italy were staying and training there, as no team who's done that so far has ever won anything
My mate made a profound comment over a beer earlier: "In my wildest dreams, I just cannot ever imagine any of this happening with Big Sam as England Manager...!"
If Big Sam was manager it would have been like Hodgson all over again. We’d have struggled to get out of the group stage. Let’s hope it will be Sir Gareth Southgate after Sunday’s game!
You wonder if that sting that the Telegraph did was in hindsight probably the best think that could have happened to the England team in recent years

I b et the reporter was Gareth Southgate's cousin.
Foolish bringing players on with 2 mins remaining to take penalties. Only ONLY players that put their hands up should take them. Southgate confirms he chose the pen takers. Oh dear. Got the basics wrong after masterminding the rest.
Losing is acceptable, but it's a right piss-off to lose a shoot out when the other team misses two.
Italy never "missed two penalty kicks", they were both saved by our Keeper, the first was brilliant skill, the 2nd was phenomenal.
Also, Italy already had the significant psychological advantage of their recent semifinal victory against Spain, being via the penalty route...!
They could not beat us over 120 minutes of football... in the final analysis, their individual & collective belief, focus & mental strength were to be crucial to the outcome... the good news is that we have circa 500 days to learn how to match them.
Penalty shoot outs are a lottery. No shame in losing them, no honour in winning them.
I did think Italy were the best team on the day. The stats say we had two shots on target. I cannot remember one apart from the goal. That's why we didn't win not because we were crap at penalties.
Moving on. We need to find a way for our players to be comfortable passing the ball between our forwards and midfield (how many passes did Kane receive a pass in the second half?). Trying to defend our penalty box will work against some teams but to use that tactic in a final is asking for trouble.
Blimey, I have learned today from social media, that the ability to successfully execute a penalty kick, is directly related to the level of a persons skin pigmentation.
Who knew...? certainly not the likes of Stuart Pearce, Chris Waddle, David Beckham, David Batty and... erm... Gareth Southgate...!

as well as the racial abuse, the behaviour of a group of supporters that can’t handle their drink was also appalling I couldn’t believe some of the footage I saw on social media

Hugely disappointed with the result.

Agreed, I don’t think we honestly deserved to win after we just sat back and let them come at us

I honestly don't know what it says about me but it truly hadn't even occurred to me what colour skin the three blokes who missed the penalties were until I read the reports of racism on social media in the (online) papers this morning.
