ADMIN EDIT: This thread has been expanded to add "Completing fixtures" as firstly the discussion has naturally progressed here and secondly a new thread was started about players getting/not getting the jabs etc. (the latter thread is merged in here with this thread)
To be honest, with the amount of games getting called off in football at the moment because of Covid I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the season temporarily suspended soon

That is looking increasingly likely. Although the government might be running scared of doing so before Christmas, it wouldn't surprise me if the football authorities take pre-emptive action.

To be honest Steve, I didn’t think the season would be completed with fans the whole way through from the beginning of the season, but to be honest this isn’t a step much further and I wouldn’t be surprised if we get another farcical season again. I feel most sorry for the non league teams if the season is suspended again because they have really suffered over the last 2 years and it’s the last thing they need.

I think what needs to happen is that the FA along with the major leagues (Premier League, EFL, National League and WSL) should have an urgent meeting on where to go next, and look to suspend the season until 8-9 January (which is FA Cup 3rd round weekend), as this would give plenty of time for club's outbreaks to calm down and encourage players to get the vaccine without them being forced to potentially put out kids teams in league games. To help with fixture congestion if I was in charge I would suggest extending the end of the season by 10 days and cancelling the rest of the League Cup and EFL Trophy (also bearing in mind next season would start earlier for PL and Championship clubs due to World Cup)
www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59686996 Roll up those sleeves, get your jabs, get the booster - with so many players refusing jabs are we heading for another abandonment of EPL football?

Yes that was exactly what happened in March 2020, when the football authorities took action themselves even though Boris said it was fine to carry on at that particular time. Even around the turn of the year last season where there were quite a few outbreaks it was nothing like this
I wouldn't say it's doomed or anything, if there is a suspension it won't be anything like it was in 2019-20 because of the fact we have the vaccines and advanced treatment now. As I've said earlier in this thread I feel maybe calling off all fixtures until after the new year will be the best option in order to ensure minimal disruption later on in the season.
Really disappointing stats about the amount of players that haven't even got their first jab though. I'm certainly against the idea of mandatory vaccines myself but surely there should be more done to promote the benefits of getting the vaccine to players considering the contact nature of the game. I haven't got any idea myself as to what the situation at Crawley is like in regards to who's been vaccinated or not but I do find it pretty infuriating hearing how many players across the board didn't bother getting one at all because if they had done we wouldn't be close to this mess (and that's across football in general).

If they’re going to insist on testing players every day or whatever, they need to at the very least agree on a set parameter for a postponement e.g 8 players have to be out for a team to postpone a fixture. Teams should have to play games if they can put 11 players on the field plus 3 subs IMO. No reason Prem and championship teams can’t do this they all have big enough squads. Prem and EFL should also agree to extend the number of players team can name in the squad to include every single registered player at the club to accommodate this.
I wouldn't be surprised if there is a 2-3 week break just not in football but sport in general.
But then I really wouldn't be surprised if after that break all sport carrys on behind closed doors for a few months.
No reason for fixtures getting congested.
If there is a break then teams should simply play Tuesday/Saturday for remainder of the season...
if the season moved behind closed doors would the ifollow service showing all matches live be brought back? It certainly should. I also think if this happens it could result in a hit for future season ticket sales knowing you could end up here again.
