Interesting timing, given that they stuck with him, right up to point where he could actually utilise his key attribute... an ability to horse trade in the transfer window...!

Reading it, it sounds like he was indeed sacked, although can't see why any decent manager would want to go there at the moment considering they are struggling financially plus their current situation looks pretty hopeless
My bet is that it would be the perennial lower league merry-go-round manager John Sheridan who will rock up there
Evans has left Gillingham, no surprise really as they are doing so badly at the moment
yes but interestingly Gillingham fans don’t seem to think it’ll make much of a difference as the issue seems to lie at the very top.
They’ve been a basket case for a while, it probs ranks among his finest achievements to get two 10th places for them. Scally by name etc. Had some interesting chats with their fans before our game with them earlier this season and they all said the wheels would fall off now with their threadbare squad
Funnily enough I always thought Evans' best season with us was when we didn't have the cash.
Getting Crawley promoted with Tubbs, McAllister, Bulman, Pablo Mills And Torres etc was good but should be expected. Nearly making the play offs with the team a season or so before was outstanding!
Don't want him back here as a manager but would always welcome a visit.
Crawley took him on after the Boston saga when I doubt anyone else would have touched him.
Did a good job in the early days when money was tight, and promotion is never a gimme regardless of budget (and he had plenty of duff signings along the way).
Did a runner when things started to look tricky and Craig Brewster got us over the line the next year. I imagine by then SE knew the joy ride would never be sustainable.
Having said that he was passionate and a winner which counts for a lot.

Off the field of play, I always found him to be approachable and pleasant. I didn’t even hear any swear words in Women’s company either !!

Yes that was a cracking season. I think it was only goal difference that stopped us finishing a place higher in the table. Some really brilliant performances back then. Good times.
I agree with most of the comments but he still gave me my most unforgettable day in football at Man Utd the win over Leeds would probably top it if I had been at the ground.
I bet it wont be long before he has another managers job because in football it does not matter how bad you fail some club somewhere will take a punt on you.
