Like I said back in October - The Mickey Mouse EFL Cup Run will have a Negative Effect this season! Batsy put out his Strongest XI for the EFL Cup Games because his job was on the line. So our First XI Boys were Playing Every Tuesday & Saturday when they didnt have to! That is no Good. Cost us 4 points in the League! Hopefully we do not go down by 3 points or less!
😂😂😂🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
I would take the joy of being a Wrexham or stevenage fan this weekend over possibility of your stats ever being true
A decade ago when Bradford City last managed to get promoted out of L2 we played 15 cup matches including the league cup final: - 7/15 ties went to extra time or penalties - 10/15 ties were away from home - 11/15 ties were above teams at least 1 div above us (including 5 against PL sides)
The promotion was won after the cup exploits rather than with points built up at the start of the season. We were 10 points off the play offs with 9 matches remaining and secured the last play off spot with a game to spare. Got through the play off SF's the hard way by losing the first leg at home and then used all of the big game experience in the final to demolish Northampton with 3 goals in the first half hour.
It's ridiculous for lower league clubs to wish away a cup run to "concentrate on the league" because aside from the memories that last a lifetime, it bonds the squad together and at our level, one televised match away to a big PL team is transformative for finances and can bring benefits that will last years.
Good Cup Runs have a Negative effect on Lower League Clubs without Good Squad Depth. Lower League Teams who have a Good Cup Run always Suffer in their League Position at the End of the Season.
It is a Fact and has been a Fact for 50 years.

Can someone remind me of how we got on in the league when we got to the FA Cup 5th round and faced Manchester United? And then the following season when we got to the 5th round and played Stoke?

But we did have a very good squad and probably the biggest budget in the lower leagues at the time. Not to say an FA cup run wouldn't have been good, but the squad this season although large is full of bang average players at best.
