My recollection is that Preston has said nothing will happen until the end of the season.
Well, for our out of contract players that will be too late. What player would want to go on holiday not knowing where they will be playing next season?
None. They will be trying to tie up deals before the summer, if not at Crawley, then elsewhere.
The big concern has to be that after a record loss making season (of their making!) That they will let them all go and expect to start again with lower league youngsters on lower wages.
It worked this season but you can't keep doing this.
SCOTT LINDSEY'S RED ARMY!
Waiting until the end of the season will be a disaster, and shows our owners are still clueless about how football works over here. Any out-of-contract players we want to keep, we need to be in talks with them now. May/June will be too late. As it seems we have little money for new signings, the summer transfer window could be painful. In January we didn't really bother signing players on loan or brining in unattached players. So presumably no money to pay any additional wages either. It will be a long summer.
All clubs have to issue their released and retained list by the third Saturday in May (18 May). You would hope that Preston meant a decision will be made by then. Often clubs will state at this time players they are still negotiating with.
Another couple of things: I wonder if the Directors vote will be before or after this date? Also in the unlikely event we make the playoffs, the season will not have finished by this date.
