"We stated we want to be in the Sky Bet Championship in 8-10 years. Ambitious? Of course it is. However, it is possible. We have learnt a lot over the past three years. We have made good decisions and mistakes we can learn from. We have gained more points each season and the squad has improved each season. Our budget for this season is a top-half one for League 2." Ziya Eren
How do we all feel on this one? I can't see it happening myself.
Love to complain about it... only i still have to occasionally pinch myself at the realisation that a club i watched playing in a rutted mud-bath at Town Mead, are now established in the football league.
The one lesson anyone who follows Crawley Town has learned, is that ANYTHING is possible...!

In all honesty, I'm not fussed about being in the Championship in 8-10 years. As thad says, that we are a football league club at all is amazing to me.
I just want a team I can be proud of and that feels like it's moving forward, and we as fans are moving forward with it. I want to see us growing as a club year on year so, should we indeed ever make it that high in the football pyramid, we are ready for it. Trying to force promotions in a stated period of time smacks of the kind of thing where you spend one season in the Championship before plumetting back down again.
My primary concern with the way the club is run at the moment is that we don't really seem to be growing, just treading water. Hopefully if what he said about the training ground is true (it's bound to be one of these days!) then that would be a start.
I think the doubters will all be silenced come the fans forum, this statement was a lot better than the copy paste ones and as Thad has said the fact we are still a football league club is fantastic.

I was under the impression that our league status was achieved by the people that yourself and others thought were bad for the club.

Au Contraire... If myself & others wished to have impeded the progress of the club we had plenty of opportunities.
My only issue with Mr. Hayward was that he created a climate of secrecy & distrust that impeded true progress off the field.
My only issue with Mr. Evans was that he always had us 1 step away from an FA enquiry.
Every single person who has supported the club should be thankfull there are people with spare cash willing to part with it for their benefit. I've always had an appreciation, sometimes grudgingly,of people who spend silly money on a club like Crawley .Even the Majeeds used their own money, dodgey or not, for a bit before they got out of their depth and totally fucked it all up. Then Paul Haywood rocked up and threw untold amounts into it before moving on. The one thing I would say about the above is they left the club in a position for someone else to take over.It was touch and go with the Majeeds, but the club came out of their stewardship in one piece, just, but still In one piece. So for our Turkish owners my message would be, keep throwing your millions at it for as long as you are happy to, but just make sure when you've had enough of it the club can be passed on in one piece for the next load of nutters to throw money at it. I will add this advice. If you are serious and in it for the long haul then serious money has to be used for a training ground and improving the stadium. The training ground would help attract new players and give the players the infracstructure to become better players. The stadium needs a new east stand and the South terrace needs to be raised for a better view. A few million should sort it.

The fact that we are a reasonably established Football League club speaks volumes. I guess having a target is no bad thing. One thing which I have not heard/seen the Premier League obsessed media pick up on yet so far this season - both Luton & Accrington are in with a good shout of going from League 2 to the Championship in 2 years. A fantastic achievement and no reason why we can't do this in 8-10 years (although when does the 8-10 years start from?)
Im not sure whats more riddiculous the pipe dream.of Championship football or the relegation thread.
Although without a big target why would the owners want the club. Its understandable. Highly unlikely but understandable.
As the saying goes: "failing to plan is planning to fail".
Truth is our previous owners gambled that you can spend your way to success in the Conference & L2 (although they got some bonus additions to income along the way) but it becomes a lot harder the nearer the top of L1 you get.

but its their riddiculous target not backed up in many ways and I give you one example a punt of a manager!
Every team takes a "punt" on every manager they employ - who knows what success they will bring - one thing in common that they all have is at some point in the future they will either move on to another club by being targeted or sacked - that's the life of a manager - the days of Wenger or Fergusson are well and truly over.
Personally I think the club have done Ok appointing left field managers - at least we haven't seen any of the dross that move from club to club being sacked every few months.
The easiest thing is to get relegated, hardest is promotion which all clubs at the start of the season are setting their sights on. Who would have thought at the start of the season that Notts County would be in their position -
