In some people's eyes we beat Grimsby due to Brewster being back
In my eyes he hasn't made a jot of difference. Oh, and in the eyes of the league and form tables too. And the hurrahs over his return have gone silent
I am not attacking him but I do struggle with the persistent attacks on Cioffi. If you are dealt a bad hand you very rarely win the game; our cards are drawn from a deck of duds in the main
Well we were 14th when Kewell left and are 21st now.
So Cioffi hasn't done a great job coaching the squad, it was his decision to move Vincelot on, and let's face it the players we brought in during the window (Meite and German) have hardly blown the lights out.
But you make a good point, it would be fair to give him a full pre-season to clear out some dead wood and build his own team. That will be easier said than done as Selim seems to have most people tied into contracts for next season.
For me the changes are needed at the boardroom level, Eren wasn't a roaring success in Turkish football and he isn't doing very well on a top 10 budget at Crawley, despite putting in £1m a season and increasing the budget by 83%.

we could have the man city manager in charge make no differwnce just a diffetnt string to pull for the puppet players at the top. Simon is spot on that its clearance at the top thats required but some people like boys toys well into adulthood.

I can only applaud the owner for putting his money in, the problem is with how it’s being spent. Our budget is going up each year yet the signings we are making are poor. How anyone can criticise Cioffi for moving Vincelot on is beyond me because his performances were absolutely shocking! When bearing in mind the players that have left and come in and how much the budget has gone up then we can only presume the summer signings of Palmer, Poleon, Vincelot, Morais and Francomb account for this rise. Francomb has been good, Palmer had a very good start but is now a liability, and Vincelot, Morais and Poleon have been shockers. I can see why the club need to invest and find a lower league diamond, but ANG and Sessay have only had a handful of good performances between them. With Grego-cox and Camara there are times the quality isn’t quite there but at least the effort always is. As a fan that’s what you wanna see. What you don’t want to see is Poleon or ANG coming on for 20 mins and not busting a gut when we are in a relegation scrap.
Back to the manager I really hope we give him a fair crack of the whip. Everything seems to be against him! It’s almost impossible to win games without a striker that can score. Palmers goals have dried up, and does anyone believe Cioffi signed Meite or German? Im certain Selim or the other guy is signing these duds. The signings over the last few years are not working so I don’t know why we don’t back a manager to make the signings he needs and then he can be accountable for results. He set the team up perfectly on Saturday and we made a good side look ordinary, yet how can he legislate for mistakes such as Morais gifting them a goal. Or Young fluffing his lines from 3 yards out.
It’s true we need a good clear out and to make the right signings (as much in terms of character than quality). What we need is a bunch of hard working lower league pros to be successful and over the last few years what signings have gone on to give us any consistency?? Morris and Bulman of course. Collins was good and Enzio at times although he went missing for half the season. Francomb has been consistent after not the best of starts. If we are too 10 budget surely we can afford some of the hard working players we have to face every week?
Flipping heck - once again - there is no issue with moving Vincelot on, the question remains though that Cioffi did not think he was good enough to be a defensive midfielder, yet WAS prepared to play him - in spite of being 5'10" - at Centre-Back... c'mon that defies ALL logic...(?)
I would also suggest that we miss Connolly more than we ever expected. He had his limitations, but he was always up for a scrap & gave us a bit of menace at attacking set-pieces, two qualities we are sadly deficient in at present.

He played centre back at the end of his Bradford career and HK/Selim signed him as a centre back not Cioffi. How do we know Cioffi was happy to play him as a centre back let along at all? If his legs have gone (which happens at different ages for different players) he might be able to play centre back but centre mid no chance. We are presuming that the manager is solely in charge of team selection which I think we all know is a little naive. In my opinion he done well to get rid in a relatively short period of time otherwise we could have been lumbered with him for another 2/3 years or whatever the contract length. Since he has left he’s gone on to make one appearance.

He sustained a very bad injury in his first game for Shrewsbury.
That will probably show as to why he’s had a solitary appearance 🙄

He had a long successful career in midfield, the fact that Cioffi played him (Joe Mac was available) at the back is surely evidence enough to support my assertion...!

Really... I simply find that a completely ridiculous comment, you genuinely think playing a crock at Centre-back is a safer option than as a midfield shield...?
We are presuming that the manager is solely in charge of team selection which I think we all know is a little naive.
Who is to blame then, Selim, Erdem...? He was never our worst player, although the rate at which he acquired yellow cards was a worry, but always looked out of position. We got Bonzo in to add physicality.

I agree, no point paying a player to watch from the stand. Just cannot reconcile him not ever being tried out in the def-mid role when we were in dire need of one & likely never will.
To summarise: IMHO if a proven experienced midfield player is not good enough or fit enough to play def-mid, then it is simply recklessness to play him at Centre-Back... and only a prize wally can argue with that...!

Really! Yeah to be honest I don’t think HK or Cioffi are the wallys, but hey you might be another one of the experts watching from the stands that know so much more. Yeah ageing footballers moving position to prolong careers never heard that one before. If you cannot get yourself around the pitch the engine room is hardly the position is it?
Right, so you have some inside knowledge that is not available to us ordinary punters... go on, spill the beans.
As for "engine room"... You really think i am suggesting he should be running box-2-box...? It must be pretty obvious, even to you, that def-mid is what is usually known as the "holding", "shielding" or even - wait for it - "sitting" role.
No wonder Tigers are in danger of extinction...!
Ps. HK signed him, as a CB, by following your argument, doesn't that make him a wally...?

Who said HK signed him? Selim talks about the signings he has made but I cannot remember the headline “Harry kewell signs Vincelot”. Crawley Town FC signed him unless you have some insider knowledge. I don’t want to keep stating the obvious, but yes a midfielder really should be running box to box. Dannie Bulman is doing it at 40 so why drop him for someone that cannot do that?
