First game back in a while and to be honest it was a drab boring pre season friendly. Kewell is trying his system of three centre backs with two advanced full backs. It's going to take these players a while to settle into that. The insistence of playing out from the back is fine if you have confident ball playing centre backs and to be honest as soon as any decent league 2 team sees this they will push up cover the overlap and shut down our makeshift back three. At times Roberts looks a world beater. I think Evina and him will work well on that left this season. Up front is a big worry. Nothing sticks. We aren't going to overrun teams this season. The middle of the park other than Mr Reliable Danny Bullman looks light weight. There simply isn't on today's showing enough there. Payne isn't going to last. I think Randall at centre back is the wrong move. Kaby looks like he's had a good summer lacking a yard thus far. I noted Kewell barking about shape at the back, it was evident he wants to play out. But simply put we don't have the players to do that. Kewell was dismayed at a lot of the build up play in the final third. This new Dutch terminator up top better be good. As mentioned above the PA system was atrocious. On a lighter note the new lad from non league up top looked promising . Gangly as anything. Also well done to the fans turning up and enjoying the day. Was a really good idea the outside open day style so well done to the club.

if we are trying to play the ball out of the back we are in huge trouble! Whilst I like the 3 centre backs system in general if we play again (and we have many of last season players retained) like we did last season in defence then really we need to play 9-0-1 and lump the ball forward, no pint in a midfield as they are always AWL anyway and get as many as possible in front of goal especially if Mersin is ever in-between the sticks! I like it the 'Dutch terminator' however good I don't think we can be so reliant on one player - Collins for example kept us up last season but to expect a repast this season is a tall order. FFS Harry sort the defence out and soon.
If HK doesn't know how bad our defenders are at distributing the ball then I really do wonder what the F*** he has been doing since his arrival at the club. Somehow he needs to try and get the best out of a bad misfit bunch of players that would struggle to play a league or two lower if they were not at the club especially all the duds on stupid retained contracts. I go further and suggest HK might be best place for us to play long aerial balls constantly, by-pass the midfield and get the balk up to the King he has a very good success rate in the air as a target man and we then need the new Hamlet guy and otters to feed off him. If sick note is back in the injury clinic then we might well be f***ed! How good is the beast? Only time will tell.
Long live the King; can we have him wrapped up in cotton wool in-between matches please.
As DD found you get time to play it out in pre season games which are basically non contact games. When it comes to the real thing in the middle of winter and the game is going at 100mph it is totally different.
I agree with Whiteshoes, we look to have some quality down the left with Evina and Roberts. However to me we look very lightweight up front. Maybe Camara will surprise us but Harold is a target man not a goal scorer and it's a bit ominous that Verheydt has been missing so far. Presumably he needs to work on fitness.
I would ordinarily agree regarding trying to play out but a suttle difference is we had Franklin playing out who is bettter on the ball plus with two full backs pushing up he has six players available in front of him.
Its not easy but may work. Its up top that really concerns me Harrold isnt suited to balls into him on the ground or to run on to. he couldnt deal with the balls in the air even yesterday.

Another good work out for the boys....nothing more nothing less...don't think anyone will be predicting anything too ambitious for us this season but if we can get a half decent goal scorer on loan then mid table looks on..
Randall playing in a back three... gotta say that they are trying a few different options out and IMHO that is encouraging at this stage and forward looking... cos it is no longer about what the players limitations were last season.. it is about their desire to improve this season...!

Thought Randall was impressive first half in the back three but when teams come and play us with real forwards then I dont think that will be an option but nice to see his quality. Lelan gives the ball away too much for my liking. Second half we just let them have the ball and pass it around until Kaby came on and starting kicking them up in the air and Camara came on and added some enthusiasm and was demanding the ball whereas it looked as though Harrold had taken root in the first half. Lots looked a bit jaded/leggy/worn out (Cox, Roberts, Enzio after a bright start) so maybe they are feeling the effects of a hard couple of weeks. Apparently a very stiff gym session on Thursday and all this will stand us in good stead. Difference between this game and the 2011 6-1 is really just that we had 3 or 4 proper threatening forwards then whereas now (at moment) we dont really have any!

What do you think a PSF is for?
but attempting to try something players are incapable of is pointless.
a decent game of football, not sure i liked the 532 for entertainment value but it seemed to work against a decent Chelsea side neither team really did enough to win the game.
It was purely a fitness exercise which some of our players needed more than others
Evina looked pretty decent but his crosses lacked quality Randell done a solid job and was probably one of our better players Camara was always looking for the ball and trying to make things happen Bulman just happy to see him back in a Crawley Shirt
Randell looked decent as was Evina. The youngster Bullman was as expected Bullmanesque Young also played well as did the keeper, I was actually impressed by him for a change. Looking forward to seeing the new Dutch forward, any ideas when he will next feature?
Much like last season really. Lots of running around with no creativity or cutting edge. A decent playmaker is needed and a forward who knows where the goal is and isn't afraid to shoot. Otherwise we are really gonna struggle,

Jeremie Boga has just come on for Chelsea in their friendly. Broadfield against Crawley one week, Birds nest stadium, Beijing, against Arsenal the next. 😆
