Honestly staging the Sx Snr cup opening one stand for a couple of hundred fans cannot be a major financial outlay surely? AND in any case using Horsham's ground behind closed doors (or not) ...if thats a financial headache Crawley Town really must be in huge trouble financially.

The costs of staging a game (floodlights, officials etc) are largely the same whether you have one stand open or 4.
Of course the club has huge financial pressures like many clubs up and down the country. If Eren was putting in £3500 a day pre Covid, what do you think is happening now the club's income is cut off? He has planted a money tree in his garden?

Simon do you think BALLERZ provides a decent revenue stream
What about season ticket revenue? ok that wont last all season, but we were told tickets were selling well. What percentage of gate are season tickets, must be quite high considering how low crowds are normally?
They may not be playing in front of crowds but they have had a lot of gate income in the form of season tickets.

we play games against Maidstone behind closed doors no difference playing East Grinstead behind closed doors and theres an equal chance its an away tie. We used Horsham's ground last season and have this season too. The cost of staging a Sx Snr Cup game cannot be substantially more than a friendly and yet the benefits of a competitive match in the cup must outweigh friendlies. Games behind closed doors tend to be arranged such that floodlighting isnt necessary.

Of course it isn't the same.
The game against Maidstone was at 11.30am on a Tuesday. They are semi-pro. You couldn't play a SSC game then as most Isthmian/county league players have 9-5 day jobs.
So it has to be an evening game so costs of things like lighting. Maybe more costs if evening use of the pitch is not in our agreement.
Also for a behind closed doors friendly the club will use local refs who want the experience and cost little. For SSC you have Sussex FA officials = costs.
If you think it all happens for free you are in la la land.

Honestly I don't know enough about BALLERZ. However I applaud the club for trying, getting good PR and also onto platforms like Just Eat.
If it provides net income then that is at least a positive.

Usually cup games are regarded as priority in the football hierarchy so could be at Weekends we have more tolerance now with ko timings and some how 30 plus other non league sides manage to illuminate the pitch in evenings. The costs for the Sx Snr Cup are very low for officials and no more or less than friendlies, although the structure for friendlies can be a one off package to include fee and travel. Its not much different though overall. No mention of any freebies so no need to bring your Telletubbies in.

Senior cup games do not get priority over FL games. Fact.
My point is to hold a floodlight SSC game with paid for officials and floodlit facilities costs money that the club can ill afford at a time when the owner was paying over £3500 a day (even pro covid) to keep the club running.
Of course if there wasn't good reason the club would not have withdrawn.
I get that these are exceptional times & the club need to put sustainability at the forefront of its thinking...
...however, I do not agree with some of the general comments about the SSC, which make us appear too "Billy big boots" for my taste.
After all, it is a competition that has provided me with some great moments & memories (and the occasional nightmare) following our club.
I am sure the club have weighed all factors up, but when the world becomes a little more like old times, I feel we may need to remember where we came from and maybe display a little more empathy to some of the counties smaller clubs...(?)
I'm not sure of the finances involved in staging a SSC game as compared to a friendly but I would imagine it would be a lot cheaper to stage a friendly. Especially, if like the Maidstone game, the subs appear to be running the line.
I'm not sure it's financial in the sense of it cost too much to stage the games. It may be that more lucrative completions are already filling our calendar for the times the SSC would be played.
The amount of league and Cup games that we are scheduled to play before Xmas is going to make it tough going for the players to play all of them and thats before replays and postponements are factored in. The club obviously felt something had to give. It couldn't be the FA cup or the league and the EFL trophy earns the club quite a lot of money that we really need. That just leaves the SSC. Sad, but if one has to go it had to be that.
The referee fees for the SSC are only £36.00 for a ref and £29.00 per assistant. Ok I appreciate that floodlighting may cost more and all these costs are accumulative but if we are pulling out for these types of fees then we are in serious financial trouble. The question that stands out for me is why can these non-league teams that survive on peanuts take place but as professional football club cannot? As Thad rightly pointed out we need to remember where we came from.
