Would you say he's been a better signing than Watters was? The main thing I am worried about Appiah is wherever we might lose him to the African Cup of Nations when that kicks off in January, as I'm pretty sure Ghana's management team will be having a look at his form. Also saw your post about Nadesan being subbed, did he look like he was losing his temper somewhat?
Watters was undoubtedly a better signing in that he both had more of an impact and landed the club a big fee at a time when we needed it. Appiah has performed better than I expected to be honest, I don’t think he’ll score 20 goals this season, but he could easily get 10-15 which would certainly help us to push up at the table.
Regarding Nadesan, I wasn’t at the game at all it was just a tongue-in-cheek comment! I’m sure his running gave is another dimension in attack.
Yes I highly doubt we'd get a million quid for Appiah to be honest, especially considering he's in his 30s now, but he has been by far the best signing that was made in the summer (as Lynch has been either injured or suspended most of the time)
And I agree that Nadesan's pace definitely can offer something different, and hopefully he has sorted out the issues he was having earlier this season too. I wonder now wherever giving Nichols a long contract earlier this season is looking as wise a decision as it seemed back then though, as I don't see how he returns to being a regular starter now unless Appiah gets injured
It appears to be very loose; they have not won in seven league games - form the BBC report describes as worrying.
The result yesterday was huge, and for both teams.
I am delighted that we have stopped the atrocious run and that changes paid off. We were in danger of doing the same thing week in and week out and ending up with precisely the same outcome.
One swallow doesn't make a summer, but well done to all involved with the team and in the stands yesterday for providing us all with a footballing boost and a platform to build on

It’s a real slog in the lower leagues and we’re at least as good as half the teams in this league so we will trade 1-0 and 2-1 wins against these teams regularly. Today we were on the right side. There will be many tight games, we just have to make sure we come out on top more often than not and we’ll very easily stay up.
First time we've won (or picked up a point for that matter) since 9th October, and very pleased for Tilley of course especially as I think he's been a bit harshly treated this season. Clean sheet added bonus too and seemed like the new formation payed off. I also think last week's match getting cancelled was probably the best thing that could have happened, and pointed this out when I was talking to Erdem and the media guys on Tuesday
Double header of home games now and I cannot help but feel these will be massive, I think 4 points out of them would be a respectable return
Another way of looking at it is Tilley looked rusty in pre-season, so the decision was made to send him out on loan to get him more up to speed, so that when he came back he can contribute. The management deserve praise for this approach, not being knocked.
I’d say Frost had actually the more effective all round game yesterday. We have Matthews waiting in the wings who is class. Marshall has been probably unlucky to not get more game time. Tilley has a job on his hands being a guaranteed starter but good luck to him, 3 games in a week will probably see Yems opt for rotation
My overall assessment of the game is that the little bits of good fortune that have deserted us of late came back to us yesterday as any patient football watcher knew they would - it always does even out. Dare I say it a decent penalty shout turned down early on showed us getting some decisions from a ref too.
Barrow were the better team for the first 50 minutes but they lack anything up front - decent defence, couple of lively midfielders tho. The elements played a huge part, a weird swirly wind would often suck the ball strange angles but generally the wind was against us first half and we opted to stay in the game by limiting too much football but just giving the workhorse Nadesan the thankless task of chasing numerous lost cause long balls that would hold up in the wind. He did it effectively and deserves more support from fans. The spell of pressure we were under just after half time was critical but Morris held his nerve.
The goal was created by Appiah who controlled a difficult high ball, drifted past a couple and then fed a beauty to Tilley who did equally brilliantly. To be honest it wasn’t a goal we were expecting so our end went extra mental cos of that. Appiah is playing the role for us that Nichols did last season.
Then you saw the best of us, we calmly started picking passes and a second looked way more likely than an equaliser. Obvs we fans were anxious when it stayed just the one goal lead but the players weren’t, they showed wonderful game management and there were very few scares.
I definitely think Yems has firm support amongst the travelling hardcore judging by yesterday, hopefully that combination of team discipline and good fortune in games will also sway the wider support in the upcoming home games

I agree, even though recent results apart from yesterday have been atrocious I don't think we'll have any trouble staying up purely because we do have some good players and other teams are in far worse states on and off the pitch (such as Scunthorpe, Carlisle and Oldham). Personally I think the best we can aim for is somewhere between 10th-14th, anywhere above that I'd consider a very good season
This upcoming home double header will be much more telling wherever we've turned a corner I reckon though due to the fact that Barrow had also been on a pretty awful run of form leading up to the game. Really hoping it's not like what happened with Solskjaer where beating Spurs was a false dawn for him

The way in which Tilley was sent out on loan was what really annoyed me, as I thought it was done in such an unprofessional way and even if there were issues with rustiness it would have made way more sense just to put him on more intense training programmes rather than leave him out in the cold for a few months

In what sense was it unprofessional? I get you might have preferred him to stay or maybe even play but this is very overwrought language to describe quite a normal everyday decision by a manager
