Just come up on his Twitter page he has signed as a player coach ….. “To a fantastic football club “ doing what he has always wanted to do ….. I guess JY wont be arranging any friendly’s there any time soon
More his level than League 2. Seems those who didn’t rate him and said he was a non league player we’re right, eh? 😉
He wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but I would be more inclined to think those that call a player who has played 450 senior games in the FL (as high as the Championship) a 'non league player' don't know much about football.
I grew up in Billericay and have fond memories of 3 Wembley appearances watching them score plenty of goals. Disappointed Josh Wright has joined them. Would have preferred him to have joined Colchester United.

He WAS a league player a few years ago when he was at Gillingham and he scored a hat trick of penalties in a League One game.
When he was with us he was clearly not good enough to play at League Two level and was past his best and was a non league player hence he plays for a conference south team.
I think that’s an important distinction to make. Yes, on the surface it seemed like a wise move at the time brining in a player with bags of football league experience, as I think Yems was alluding to when he made the remarks about Wright at the fans forum, but the signing in reality didn’t work out at all and Wright weakened the team when he played.
Well there was a certain level of politics involved and JY made it clear he thought Josh could do a job but he had been told to move him on.
From what I saw he wasn't any worse than many of the people who get a game at Crawley these days.
Of course he couldn't join a league club as he wasn't released until after the deadline.
And I think that’s fine. Owner (his representatives) and manager aren’t going to see eye to eye on everything, no matter the size of club. But particularly at our level, there has to be some give and take, and the people who pay the bills get a say on some things. Owner just happened to agree with most fans here. And Wright wasn’t shockingly bad, he was just persistently a little below below average and increasingly looking his age. An honest disagreement

If true that only suggests the owners don't really have a scooby doo what they are doing.
In January 2021 we gave Josh a 2.5 year deal and club website said:
Technical Director, Erdem Konyar, said: “Josh is an exciting signing who has a genuine potential to raise the levels and expectations of the collective. His familiarity and existing relationship with our manager underlines an existing connection which can only be beneficial for the club.
“Personally I’m delighted with the consistency in our recruitment and strategies this season. Together with the gaffer we are consistently raising the standard. Long may it continue.”
However only 6 months later he was apparently so far down the pecking order that he couldn't get in the squad ahead of the players we have now so we had to reach a settlement and let him leave?
Seriously, what type of business gives someone a 2.5 year deal, the Technical Director calls him an "exciting signing" and then decides only 6 months later the person is not needed? It's not like the club signed loads of quality names, could he have been any worse than half the players we have now? If he was that bad, why did we sign him? Or just that the club screwed up on the finances and needed to free up budget to sign some of the other 16 midfielders (yes, 16!!) listed on the club website?
No there is zero logic in what you say there. All those statements were made after he had been with us a short while. It’s a normal everyday thing in football for players to underperform their expectations after a period of time. Not everything is a watergate scandal you know, more commonsense needed really when considering these matters

You cannot have watched the games last season and come to that conclusion. With Wright we averaged 0.5 pts a game and 2.2 pts without him. Coincidence? No he was horrendous, shocking…the only reason he got a game was the special relationship when Yems. Don’t forget he came into the side on the back of a 10 game unbeaten run.

I agree with Steve.
Wright looked a good signing on paper when he joined us given his wealth of experience at L1 & L2 level, but his performances were poor and he simply wasn’t at the level he was a few years ago given he’s now the wrong side of 30. This is perfectly normal for signings to not work out, especially with players over 30 not being at the level they used to be at.
Some signings perform better than expected like Max Watters and some perform badly like Josh Wright.
