No there is zero logic in what you say there. All those statements were made after he had been with us a short while. It’s a normal everyday thing in football for players to underperform their expectations after a period of time. Not everything is a watergate scandal you know, more commonsense needed really when considering these matters
I agree with Steve.
Wright looked a good signing on paper when he joined us given his wealth of experience at L1 & L2 level, but his performances were poor and he simply wasn’t at the level he was a few years ago given he’s now the wrong side of 30. This is perfectly normal for signings to not work out, especially with players over 30 not being at the level they used to be at.
Some signings perform better than expected like Max Watters and some perform badly like Josh Wright.
Same, I thought he would be decent as well when he was first signed but unfortunately that just wasn't the case, his health issues before signing (as I'd heard even before the fan's forum about him catching COVID really badly) must have really not helped at all. Anyhow, he's moved on from us now so I'm not massively bothered about what went on behind the scenes with him and hopefully he can rediscover his mojo and love of football a bit at his new club
How committed was Josh Wright to Crawley Town?. He was working on a training video with his brother and was living of the celebrity lifestyle of his brother. There was articles in OK and Hello magazine about his lifestyle. As for his brother, he had so many other commitments during his short stay at Crawley Town that he would not have been able to attend all training sessions and would not have been available for all away games. I am sure that Josh Wright could have been a better player for Crawley if he had been fully committed to the role.

Maybe you didn't know but it's quite normal for clubs even at our level (or at least those clubs who know what they are doing) to actually watch players before signing them. He had been a regular for Leyton Orient for the previous season and a half, and Brisbane Road isn't that far to send a scout, so it can't have been that hard.
Also if you haven't watched the player and can't be sure if he us up to it why give a 2.5 year deal? It makes for a very expensive mistake if you decide 6 months later you want to pay him off because he is underperforming.
Even more embarrassing when the Manager is sat next to the Technical Director at a fans forum saying openly the player was moved on against his own wishes.
Maybe that's why the club is just marking time. Too many signings that are just not good enough and eventually end up as Senior Cup material or moved off on loan where they may or may not play.
Mr Wright was hardly picked to play for Bradford City before his move to Leyton Orient. He was hardly picked by Leyton Orient before his move to Crawley Town. The fans of both sides said his level of effort meant they were happy He was leaving.
He was a good player for Gillingham before this so signing him was always worth a punt. A 2 1/2 year deal seems excessive for a punt but it was a worthwhile gamble.
Having said this I wish him well on this next stage of his life.

Well he played 38 times for Leyton Orient in 2019/20 and another 15 times in 2020/2021 before joining Crawley. 53 games in a season and a half is a strange definition of "hardly picked".
Go ask some Orient or Bradford fans. I didn't look it up so I presume he was a sub but could be wrong.
Also, you've edited my post to make it look as though I've said we shouldn't have signed him which was not the gist of my post at all.
Jim Baker
45 of the 53 were starts.
I'm not debating whether or not we should have signed him (probably not if we let him go 6 months into a 2.5 year contract). I'm just highlighting that your comment about him being "hardly picked" by Leyton Orient is complete nonsense. No need to ask their fans, a quick Google will tell you that.
As in fact is the suggestion that he was "hardly picked" for Bradford - he played about half the games, and that was in League 1.
You may not rate him, fair enough, but unless you are planning to become an MP I don't see the point in making things up.
Come on Jim. Far from taking a punt on someone who had "barely played", the club were signing someone who had played regularly the previous two years.
Why not just admit you were talking bollocks? They can't have been serious fans you were talking to if they didn't even know whether he had been playing. In fact have a look at the Twitter thread when he left the Orient and you would see it is a load of cobblers.
