Possibly; I think there is a danger of people becoming bored with top-level football due to saturation.
I've got pretty bored of the Premier League to be honest, I don't tend to watch a game unless I am with friends really
We have both said that some of our football is boring but I've given up watching England for that very reason during qualifying - one sided meaningless games in the main. At many of our games this year its been the officials who have caused most discussion rather than the players - sort of says it all.
In recent times I think many people have been pushed into stepping back and asking themselves what is important to them. Certainly, I find top-level football has become an intermittent irritation of late.
When I was a kid I used to buy a magazine called Football Monthly. Because it was a less frequent publication than most it would have some articles that were more in-depth. As far back as the 1960s it predicted what might happen if football became a slave to the broadcasters, and it used cricket as its template. However, FM didn't go far enough. Even they never dreamed that the precious FA Cup Final would be demoted to a teatime slot meaning that supporters of distant clubs would not arrive home until well after midnight. At least the coach didn't turn into a pumpkin.

Are you referring to Charles Buchan,s football monthly? it was a very good read. For younger Forum members Charles Buchan started his career in 1909 playing for Woolwich Arsenal.
England women could win 100-0 it still doesn't interest me in fact it really annoys me how on the radio they start talking about Man City this Arsenal that etc etc and then say (its the women's game) or it becomes obvious its women's football they are talking about. The international breaks are even worse as the media floods women's football - lets be honest its a MINORITY sport that very few are interested in and yet it gets so much coverage far too much, There are other sports far more popular that receive less coverage.

I don't recall the name Charles Buchan, but it was a long time ago. Something I do recall though, and this will make a few people laugh, is that the magazine offered £1,000 to any division one player who could match or beat Dixie Deans' record of scoring sixty goals in a season. Without looking it up I think he played for Everton and set that record in the 1920s.

I do watch women's football on TV sometimes and quite enjoy it, but I share your irritation about the fuzzy boundaries in the reporting.
Westander, you seen the England women's game on at the moment? 8-0 at half time
It ended up 20-0
saw the sore this morning and must admit not a fan. 20-0 is just a mismatch as is the men's teams winning 8- 0 another game I didn't watch!!! if we extend the number of teams there's a real chance we will have to put up with dross even more. I must be getting old and grumpy but also don't watch the champions league games until at least the knockout stage. time for a cup of cocoa then bed!

You never see those "Ladies" take their shirt off when celebrating scoring a goal.
Watching women's football reminds me of watching Crawley in the Southern division of the Southern League. Some excellent players but the overall standard is slow and sloppy.
Elite football perplexes me. Some great tactics, wonderful teams and pig thick players. You can mix that up too. Pig thick teams, great players and wonderful tactics. The clubs themselves seem to think we (all) owe them subservience and should kow tow at every opportunity. I do hope when we reach that lofty position we retain some humility.
I doubt it adds much to the credibility of the ladies game when teams are getting beaten 20-0.
Bit like the WC Qualifiers - easy for Harry Kane to knock a few in against San Marino, Andorra, Albania and similar but back in the real world of the PL it's 1 goal all season.

Yes indeed, although you don't see scorelines anything like that big in the WSL. I think international football in general isn't helped at all when you quite often see two teams that shouldn't be on the same pitch really. I really only tend to bother watching it most of the time if it's either the World Cup or a continental championship
Moving on to another topic that is probably relevant to the threat title, I also think the standard of refereeing has got worse in this country, especially in the Premier League. I don't know if any of you saw what happened in the Man United v Arsenal game but I don't get why they took so long over wherever to give the goal or not when I thought it was a pretty easy decision (IMO was a perfectly good goal as the GK got tripped by his own player seconds before the shot, and he was fine half a minute later anyway). Plus how on earth did Atkinson not spot the penalty in the first place?

Agree, it has got worse at all levels. Some of the refereeing in the Rymans is atrocious, although they don't have replays to look at.
The level of cheating by players is also at an all time high which doesn't help. Players going down as if shot and then up again just like Lazarus de Gea.
