Moving on to another topic that is probably relevant to the threat title, I also think the standard of refereeing has got worse in this country, especially in the Premier League. I don't know if any of you saw what happened in the Man United v Arsenal game but I don't get why they took so long over wherever to give the goal or not when I thought it was a pretty easy decision (IMO was a perfectly good goal as the GK got tripped by his own player seconds before the shot, and he was fine half a minute later anyway). Plus how on earth did Atkinson not spot the penalty in the first place?
Agree, it has got worse at all levels. Some of the refereeing in the Rymans is atrocious, although they don't have replays to look at.
The level of cheating by players is also at an all time high which doesn't help. Players going down as if shot and then up again just like Lazarus de Gea.
It was a good thing that they did allow that goal to stand otherwise it could have set a precedent where goalkeepers would fake injury in order to stop legitimate goals from being scored
I dont buy this fixture congestion argument. The modern game has been flooded with money. Footballers earn astronomical amounts. If they can't play 2 games a week then in my opinion they dont deserve thier high wages.
Or football turns round to the tv companies and say "Sorry the players cant handle all these different kick off times you require...so keep your money"...but we all know theres no chance of that happening.
Yep, as I said earlier. 38 league games, no League Cup replays and maximum of 1 replay in early rounds of the FA Cup. Oh no hold on, most of them don’t even play in those competitions.

Mid table Premier League teams resting their entire starting XI in the FA Cup really annoys me, as it's like they're trying to throw away the opportunity to create great memories for their fans just to earn however much they receive from finishing each place higher in the table (and it's not as if a lot of these teams are likely to get into Europe through the league anyway)
According to the Guardian, there have been talks to remove parachute payments to clubs relegated from the Premier League, which I think is a positive

In reality they probably could play 2 games a week, if it was Saturday 3pm and Tuesday 7.45pm.
The issues are also caused by the scheduling of games on every day of the week (TV), shorter seasons, bloated international competitions, pointless European games (Europa conference), summer tours (money), more foreign players (Africa cup, travel to South America for international games).
The margins in football are small, if you have say Liverpool v Man U on a Saturday where one team has 3 days rest and the other only 2 I can see why there may be a sense of injustice which quickly becomes a conspiracy.
Yes, and the proposed new format for the Champions League looks absolutely horrendous. Also it's worth taking into account that the game is much more intense physically now than it was a few decades ago due to the increase in tempo, plus advancements in sports science have meant managers are more aware of how to preserve their players' fitness and reduce the chances of injuries happening
I actually don't think the Europa Conference league is a bad idea though because it gives teams from leagues with lower coefficients a much better opportunity to have decent runs in a European competition when otherwise they would be out of Europa League by July
