With Colchester having Covid issues now I would be pleasantly surprised if this happens.
But it is just a complete an utter joke now with the amount of games getting called off (only 2 out of 12 in League 2 have gone ahead this evening). Something needs to be done about possibly extending the season by a couple of weeks just to fit all these cancelled games in
From Colchester club twitter: "injuries and positive COVID-19 cases within the U's squad meant there isn't the sufficient number of players available in order to fulfil the fixture"- that was the 29th Dec fixture. The farce of all these postponements is injuries are being taken into account and we dont know how many were injured and how many have Covid. Covid alone (notwithstanding when issolation period started) suggests a game is unlikely to be played a few days later. Obviously have to wait and see but lunchtime 31st Dec I can see an announcement coming out that this Colchester game is off.
It’s now unlikely to be called off for COVID as there is no testing on the day of the game and that Colchester are advertising the tickets now - so hopefully game on
Let's all remember those joyous carefree times, when a home fixture on New Years Day had us all whimsically speculating on more mundane & simple matters...
Y'know, like whether the pitch would be: - water-logged - covered in snow - frozen solid...!

That would be good indeed, if it was called off we would have gone nearly two months without a home fixture as the next one isn't until the 22nd (vs Tranmere)
Also let's hope 2022 brings lots of joy and success to our club, my slightly unrealistic dream is that by next Christmas we will be top of League Two and playing swashbuckling football
Oh and by the way, I think we will kick the year off with a 2-0 win with Appiah and Nichols to score
