Swindon forum makes for interesting reading thetownend.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=h1hscmp66ih8893ttq0opgbmn4&topic=59219.330 Seems their fans are getting are as annoyed with that number 20 Williams diving as we were and they accept their players dive a lot! They say our pitch is bad and they should’ve won. Well I agree they should’ve won, we’ve played better than that a lot this season and lost, but we had rotten luck against Exeter on Tuesday and should’ve got a point there so it’s about time we got the run of the green. I’ve been to about 10 home games this season and seen is won twice! Our home form has not been good enough and given 9 out of 10 Crawley fans don’t regularly go to away games and watch home matches instead we need to win a bit more at home and I don’t think that’s an unrealistic or unreasonable aspiration.
Storming second half performance, shows our fitness levels must be pretty good against a team of promotion contenders. Been trying to look up stats for our first half/second half performances, I wonder if any kind person can help me with that
The key to me was the astonishing performances of our stand-in centrebacks Hess and Francomb, they were near faultless throughout. Proving once again that players aren’t born with numbers on their backs, if they are good enough they can adapt. People often run away with the idea that you have to play an established centreback of lesser pedigree ahead of a better player who plays another position, and both yesterday and Exeter proves that isn’t true. It always depends on the player and our two guys have readily transferable skills.
This will be useful because I think we have 4 really good squad centrebacks but their injury record this season may not necessarily improve next season. That said I’m sure we all hope Tunnicliffe and Lynch will be back soon, Craig seems more serious. Word also for Ferry and Tilley who have also adapted really well to less familiar pitch roles in recent times.
No coincidence also our best 3 forwards were on the pitch yesterday. Nadesan absolutely runs opposition defenders ragged all game and they were there to be taken at the end by fresher subs like Marshall given how exhausted they were. Appiah and Nichols, well you will not come across cleverer players at this level. Slight misjudgment by Morris for the equaliser but then what might have been save of the season from point blank range a few minutes later
I tend to think we’ve known for a long while that standards are flatter in the lower leagues, particularly League 2. I don’t think there are huge differences ability wise between some of the teams around say 6th or 7th and those down in 18th and 19th. Often Premier League goggles are wrongly worn, where there is actually huge gaps in class between teams. I’d say Crawley continue to overachieve given our comparative budgetary position both in terms of player acquisition and getting performances out of them but we can’t get that consistency to ride through bad injury spells and push on to the really higher spots
I wanted to get to this one but was too busy with life's business end. It sounds like I missed a treat.
Ditto - family duty and all that. Applying the "Law of Sod" I hope you placed a bet on a home win - I didn't
My stuff involved my second house move in a month - not nearly as bad as it sounds but enough to keep me occupied. If security were no issue and the place had wi-fi, I'd happily live in a caravan in some woods. But I've signed up for a year into an arrangement that appears pleasantly acceptable for my current needs.
As for betting on a Reds win, I'm not really into that. One or two lottery tickets per month is the extent of my gambling.
Good win which surely cements another year of FL football.
It shows what has been clear for a while now.....Crawley can match the best teams in the division but struggle to put away the relegation contenders.
Shame as the league is quite open... Forest Green still top even though they haven't won since 8th Feb.
I think even if we were to lose every game from now until the 8th May we'll be fine as I can't see the 23rd placed team scoring 48 points. Also telling that when I've looked on the bookmakers' websites we've been removed from the relegation odds selection
