Too little too late. Disappointing to lose to a bang average looking side. Real lack of quality in the final ball, other than Nichols to Nadders and Marshall for the goal.
We huffed, we puffed and we wouldn't've even blown a paper house down; spineless. The team look disorganised chaotic lacking shape and desperately need Yems back in charge. Morris was all over the place tonight.

Didn't really expect much tonight - we don't make it easy for ourselves at times
I’ve said it before, I know we are down to bare bones in terms of who we’d like to select but I really don’t think we are making the most of what is available. I spent all game trying to work out what the formation was and it was even more haphazard after the first two subs and the last sub was just desperate chuck on another option and hope for the best!
We looked disorganized and lacking any real shape or game plan other than to try and get it to Nadesan. No one in midfield takes the ball of the back 3 (even if they wanted to try and pass it - which they don’t!) and there’s no one between the lines from midfield to the forwards. The midfield was basically 3 defenders and it leaves the three up front isolated and with no one to combine with other than each other.
Hess was poor tonight and I don’t like the look of a two man midfield of him and Payne. It’s one paced and one dimensional.
The front three are ineffective as a three and we may need to just pick the best two and use the third one for changes, and use an extra midfielder instead.

It's tricky to work out a chicken and egg situation - do the front 3 just look bad because the midfield aren't doing the job they should?
I'm firmly of the view as you suggest that the midfield aren't taking responsibility and demanding the ball and holding it. Payne should be the man dictating play now that Powell is gone - but he is nowhere to be seen. Hess is not really a technical player and I don't think you can expect him to do it, he needs to be paired with someone who can.
I would go back to the drawing board and pair Francomb with Hutchinson in midfield. Drop Hess back into the back 3. Tunnicliffe for me doesn't look fully recovered from his long injury and may have been rushed back because of our CB crisis. Hopefully Lynch will be available soon. The one big positive tonight was Ludwig who impressed the Salford commentators we were forced to listen to.
I would stick with the front 3 forwards, Nadderz and Nichols were ok tonight, Appiah not quite at his best but again he is feeling his way back from a long injury break.
After strikers, genuinely creative playmaking midfielders are the next most difficult player to find and we need to be looking at that in the summer. I think if we can get another season out of our current front 3 strikers they will really surprise people but they need a midfield to supply them.

lol for once, there's only one word I would disagree with there. We were awful for the first 20 minutes but then scrapped hard for all the game after that, so not spineless - we fought bravely but were just directionless and lacking in real quality and intelligence.
The official twitter argued that Morris made a good save just before the second goal but it looked more to me that Morris needed a stronger hand to get the ball away from danger.
Both goals we conceded actually came from rebounds off our woodwork that went straight to their forwards. Unlucky? I'd say more that Salford pressing hard earned their luck alas

Yes I’d agree with that. The only thing I’d say about the three forwards is that I’ve heard several people say (Lewis Young after the game also said it), that they have all scored recently and it’s suggested that means they are in good form and work well together….I’d disagree.
Since the Oldham game Nadesan has scored once in 7. Prior to FGR it was 1 in 8 (although I can’t remember how many of those he started?) He needs to not necessarily score more but more regularly.
Also, of the recent goals they’ve scored none of them have been following combinations with any of the other two. Nicholls have come from Hutchinson and Marshall assists, Nadesans was from a Tilley shot, Kwesi from a Tilley cross and a goalmouth scramble. It doesn’t suggest they are linking up well.
If we are to continue with 3 at the back i agree, without Tunnicliffe, I’d move Hess back into the 3 with Ludwig and possibly Gallagher (it’ll be 21 days by next game). Francombe and Payne with Hutchinson as the extra midfielder, Tilley and Ferry wide and Nicholls and Kwesi up front. Nadesan could be a much more effective change as opposed to having all three on from the start leaving us nowhere to go if we’re a goal down.

Higher up in the thread, people are saying the strikers aren't getting any service from our midfielders. Looks like you've just highlighted that this isn't the case.
Our central midfielders seem to exist in their own dimension. They don't press, can't seem to pass to a team mate, hardly ever contribute an assist, don't track back, don't defend (except when one of them is played at CB), don't seem to tackle opponents, just stand off and let the oppo run at us until they are through on goal.
We need a major rethink in midfield for next season, or we are never going to progress. We have 3 good strikers, but they need the CMs to support them far more than they do. At least our attacking midfielders/wingers give it a good go, even if their crosses often don't beat the first man. Similarly, the CMs need to own the midfield, not let themselves be overwhelmed/bypassed quite so often. It's no wonder the defenders resort to hoofing it upfield so often.

I agree, if all this stuff about us being under new ownership that's willing to invest heavily in the club is true, the midfield is clearly the area in which I feel we could easily afford to find better players than what we currently have right now. Imagine how many goals Nichols, Nadesan and Appiah could end up scoring if they recieve fantastic service behind them.
Also one thing that really frustrates me at times is how little often some of our players are willing to get in the box to help out the guys up front. So many times I've seen good looking crosses not coming to anything because there hasn't been anyone in the area waiting to pounce
It is difficult to see at the moment how Salford will attract crowds. The ground is in a residential area with residents only parking. It is only served by busses. They are planning to move to a new ground close to the city centre with better access. Ground capacity of 5000. They may be tinpot but their pies and chips are far superior, cheaper and quicker served than those at Crawley.

The matchday catering at the Broadfield has been a disaster ever since they sacked Tilgate Bakery.
