I may be remembering wrong but I think Kaikai was played as a defender when he should have been playing much farther forward, so was playing out of position in my view.
I must say from memory, nearly all out loan players have always been good.
I can't remember any duffers, although I am sure some of you'll remind me of some names
Plenty.
Davey and Beeney from Chelsea were mentioned already.
KaiKai and Boateng from Palace were like 2 rabbits in the headlights.
Bansal-McNulty last season from QPR was so bad he couldn't get in the squad. Unbelievably we loaned him twice.
Willock from Man U was a disappointment and Hesketh was never fit.
Mason Bloomfield from Norwich was very ordinary.
A previous loan from Brighton - Jeffrey Monakana. So unfit he couldn't manage 90 mins.
Ibrahim Meite was useless, so bad that for some reason we re-signed him before he scaled the heights of Wingate & Finchley.
Liam MacAlinden, did little but has done ok elsewhere.
Rene Gilmartin. We must have got the CVs of the programme sellers and players mixed up.
I'm sure there were others.
Bansal-NcNulty definitely played a significant role helping us win an away game last season and it was one of the mysteries of the time that he never got more chances straight after that.
Unlike most of these names, Kaikai would go on to be a very good player so that’s probably the biggest lost opportunity of this list
Will be schooled in the Graham Potter possession style so hopefully a good fit into what Kev is trying to do here
Yes lots of tippy tippy passing sideways and backwards. I saw Burgess Hill play a Brighton 11 (mostly under 18s so similar age to this guy) and there was lots of tippy tappy sideways passing, but hardly any chances created in the final third. I feel like youth coaches and youth players need to be reminded of the basics of the game- out scoring your opponents! Burgess Hill won the match 1-0 with a really scrappy goal scored from a corner after 2 or 3 minutes and missed a penalty as well, but the young Brighton players were far superior technically and there were times when Burgess Hill struggled to get the ball of them, but ultimately Burgess Hill did the basics of the game better. After last Saturdays showing against Aldershot in the friendly where we gifted them 3 goals, hopefully Betsy won’t have to remember the basics of the game!
Almost all games at that level are designed more for the players to learn the style the technique not just about the win, that comes later.
The best part of a loan to a league club is that it gives these young lads technically brilliant as they’re a chance to see the reality of matches that every point matters. To teach them that side of the game.
