First half was meh with Balagizi and Omole the best players IMO, but nothing memorable really. First couple of minutes in second half I thought we came out pretty well, however when their goal went in it was pretty much downhill from there. The build up play was too slow most of the time, and this was especially frustrating once Leyton O. had scored. There were quite a few occasions where players were passing it around each other as if it was a pre season game even in the last 20 minutes and there was just no energy to it. We really need to speed up the play quite drastically and also not faff around unnecessarily in our own half as much too. I know a lot of people aren't liking the posession style much but what annoyed me today tbh was just the application and how slow it was at times. However it is still early days and hopefully once the first win (or goal) goes our way that will be the psychological boost needed to kick on.
I still think this style could come off well in the long term but some of the players just aren't used to it at all and that could maybe explain why it was too cautious today. Also a lot of these players have only just joined the club so won't be used to playing together fully yet. I'm hopeful and confident things will eventually start to click soon, but not the best start to a campaign I have seen
Much I was disappointed by the result today, I was more disappointed by the reaction to Betsy at the end. For a young guy starting out here in management, he needs better support than that.
The game was nothing special, pretty even mostly. My Orient mate was moaning about their performance at half time on text to me which sums up fan expectations quite broadly. The story was we missed what looked like a tap in for Tilley and they took a more difficult chance, albeit from our poor organisation - but was that their first corner of the game in the second half?
I’ve heard a lot about Betsy being a restricted passing play guy but there was numerous long balls by us today, few of them any good.
At this early stage, the problem looks to me Nichols and Telford look too much similar players and lacking a hold-up player up front to keep the ball there. A few other of the signings looked below par.
On the plus side, there were decent performances from Balzagi, Omole and Tilley. Something to build on if it wasn’t for the pressure being put on so early, trying to manufacture a crisis here before the season barely starts. Hmmm
You haven’t stopped waxing lyrical about Betsy since he became manager getting all excited about pre season results that most of us know mean diddly squat thrashing non professional teams, whilst many of us can see the guy hasn’t got a clue how to set up a team to be successful in this league. Just watched his after match interview and he is delusional going on about the one chance we missed! I was no massive Yems fan but he got us mid table on the smallest budget in the league and that was despite the worst injury record I’ve ever known. Yes at times we were a little too direct but he was trying to win football matches and using the resources available. Now just feels like we a watching a youth team trying to develop. All he seems to care about is stats and style of play. Given that he has one of the top budgets in the league he’s put a poor squad together that most savy league two sides will put to the sword with ease.

I agree with Steve. Disgraceful reaction from home fans behind the goal. They were asleep for most of the game, didn't hear one positive chant even when we were level and Orients chant you r supporters are F-----g s--t was very apt. Being in the west stand I cant claim to be any better with the chanting but when we turned on the team and the ultimately the manager it was totally unwarranted. The team could have done better no doubt but to castigate them so early in the season was unwarranted and a total disgrace. Shame on us all.
Anyone else just feel no connection to the current team? I'm all for the manager bringing in his own players but you still gotta keep the core from last season. We still finished 12th last season with potential to have finished higher.
very interesting comment. I think and hope connections grow.

At Carlisle it started with "we gonna win the league" and finished with "we're f****** ****" but Im not gonna argue as you pay your money (and a fair chunk to get up there). Next couple of matches will be key.
I wonder if the owners have raised expectations too high and too quickly. Talk of getting promoted and to the Championship have raised expectations of the fans who are expecting instant results, whereas there was always going to be some adjustments required given the large change in playing staff and playing style.
Tuesday will be my first game under the new management, so looking forward to seeing how the team shape up and perform.

I don't think having a shot or more than one on target are unrealistic expectation given we playing at the same level as Carlisle and Orient.
Just back from the pub and after several drinks all I can say is the dire performance today still looks as sh*t as it did between 3 and 5pm. The tippy tappy football is boring Kevin, I've yet to speak to any fan that enjoys this approach. If we won matches that way maybe you will win a few fans over but right now the football is as sh*t as I can remember. Even under bighead Harry we managed more attacking play. You will be gone by Chridtmas at latest if you keep this up.

Shame on us all? Shut up. I didn't boo the team or slate KB or the players, despite the piss poor performance today.
so Betsey says "we do know what we're doing" - a dig at fans paying your wages. Then "we need supporters to stay with us" - another dig. Then he says if we scored we all be saying wow but as we didnt "no one cares" allienate the fans and you'll be gone way before Christmas. How about an apology for a p1ss poor performance AGAIN?
As for Johndon the lad looks utterly depressed. Very worrying the new set up.

The possession based style is the way to go. However, long boots forwards after 2 minutes of sideways possession is not what I call possession football (even though it looks good on the stats). If we carry on doing that it will mean fans will stay down the pub.
When we were playing that style in the first half the south stand could see enough of the football to be engaged and could appreciate some of the passing on show. Second half all you can really see is the ball played around before being passed back and a boot forward to two small forwards with very little hope of winning the ball. There were already grumbling in the first half about how slow we were in the build up. When we went behind the grumbling started getting louder and when we had a five minute spell of playing the ball around the back with no one looking to get it forward it broke the dam and the cat calling started.
No throwing the baby out with the bathwater but most people in the crowd could see the build up was way too slow and needs to be improved...drastically. I didn't hear one player get slagged off even though I was tempted a couple of times so others must have been. The players were clapped at the end of the game. Betsy wasn't.
Betsy is on a steep learning curve here. We need to give him time but we, as fans, come to the game for entertainment. It is not entertaining to hardly see any shots and I dont give a monkey's for how long we can keep the ball unless we are 1 up in the last five minutes.
It's OK to give time but meanwhile we are bottom and looking too good to go down and that worries me.

The first half was just passable but the second half was one of the worst performances i have seen from a Crawley team for a long time. the passing was slow and laborious and lacked ideas but we did have our first shot on target in extra time so after 180+ minutes. This performance is not going to win matches and get the supporters coming back week after week. Our league position reflects the way we have played the first two games and with a manager who thinks it wasn't to bad if he stays he will take us down. They have got to stop playing at academe pace and play at men's league pace.

I don’t believe you can play tippy tappy Barcelona style football in League 2 and League 1. You need to have good movement off the ball, fast accurate passing and good technical ability. The players at this level are 1) simply not technically good enough to play this way 2) Are not used to playing this way. How many times did we have the ball passing it around the back 4 with no midfielders showing for it and the strikers too far away from the action and sticking too their positions, so the result was we ended up making a dozen passes in our own half to then play a long ball forward to 2 small forwards who lost out almost every single time to the defenders. Everyone could see it wasn’t working apart from the manager it seems who had no plan B.
The player that impressed me most was Balagizi who was getting stuck in, chasing back to win the ball and tussling with Orient players at both ends of the pitch. Yes he lost out a few times and his passing didn’t come off, but he wanted to win the ball back quickly and play forwards.
Other than that nobody stood out and Telford struggled to make any impact at all with only one decent ball in behind for him in the second half to chase. Nichols was also well marshalled by the Orient defence and struggled to make his usual impact linking up play.
