Amazing win last night, and by the sounds of it a brilliant performance too. In the league (watching from Hove on iFollow), we've been up and down (more down than up), some nice football but defensively porous and not looking like we'll score goals. Hopefully last night can be a trigger for improvement in the league now. So assuming everyone is fit and available, what do people think is our best starting XI and formation? Looks like KB wants to go with 3 at the back, wingbacks, 3 in midfield with 1 of them more advanced and 2 up front. Who would you pick?
Good thread this, with such a large squad and so many players coming in and putting in a good shift, I'm sure there are many different versions of our best XI amongst fans. Tactically I don't think it's possible to adopt what we did last night in every league game and strangely I don't think it would be as successful as it was against Fulham but there are many elements of it we have to take forward. Most importantly, the quick intense build up play has to continue. I may have got the formation wrong but last night has really messed with my selection. I'll be honest, I haven't got a clue what to do with the back line, it feels unjustified having Lynch in there having not played for so long but we know what he brings (Potenially swap him with Ransom). I'd also stick with Davis, we saw his quality pre-season and last night his delivery into the box is superb. When we have a fully fit squad this is going to be a real headache for Betsy
Good team. My observation on Craig so far is that he doesn't look like he has much pace. And Powell does seem to give the ball away a lot, but not sure there is anyone better for that central midfield spot.

100%, this is why I say last night has thrown a complete spanner in the works. Had Powell not played I probably wouldn't have included him but he was sensational last night and fair play to Betsy for playing him after the shambles of the weekend. You're right, Craig doesn't have any pace at all but he provides vital balance/experience to the back line. Other than Balaigizi he's been our best player so far this season.
Yes interesting discussion but one you'd probably come up with two different looking teams based on whether the criteria was career achievement so far or form lines in the few games this season we've seen.
My career pick would be if everyone match fit: Balcolmbe; Francillette, Craig, Lynch; Francomb, Powell, Balagizi, Tsaroulla; Nichols; Appiah, Telford.
My season form pick would be: Addai, Johnson, Craig, Ogungbo; Tilley, Powell, Hessenthaler, Tsaroulla; Balagizi; Nadesan, Nichols.
As I see more of the players over the next few months I'll probably come up with just one team to cover both criteria but it's so early yet I could probably change my mind 10 times about the players
Although Addai made a decent save last night, his kicking is pretty good, but, he does seem to stay rooted to his goal line rather than command the six yard box.
For his height, he should really be claiming the crosses.
Tough call, especially as I didn't see last night.
I think Lynch is probably the best footballer at the club so I would have to find space for him. I think Nichols is a creative force up front so I should find space for him. Nadersan has something our other forwards don't and we can stretch the opposition with him on the field (keep their defence honest) so it would be hard to leave him out. Getting Balagizi on runs into the box is a must but he is also very good deeper.Craig has been very good this season...basically I end up with a team of fifteen!
With who we have and with Betsy's preferred formation...
Why no Nichols? I just feel that when he plays deeper he is very hit and miss. I just think its a straight choice between him and Telford or him and Balagizi and if we can get the Telford from last season his goals just mean he has to play.
