My point was the FA guidance on handball was changed this season so your decades of experience are not relevant. Just like when I started watching football in the 1970s you could kick players off the park without a yellow card but that isn't relevant now either.
If you stick your arm out, make your body bigger and prevent the cross there is a high risk that a penalty will be given whether its Crawley, Burgess Hill or Pease Pottage reserves. Even Betsy got that in his post match interview.
Why do you feel the need to misrepresent what Betsy says? He says it wasn’t a penalty. Honestly Simon the video is there on the club website and anyone can check what Betsy says about the incident
He said "I'm not sure it was a penalty". His exact words. And the manner in which it was said tells you all you need to know.
Steve the Mod will add you to his black book shortly.
Lol try and be a bit less intimidated by someone having an opinion that gasp differs from yours
Lots of posters have lots of views. Only one has a need to comment on everything and anything. I don't think I'm the first to have noticed that. Intimidated? That's the funniest thing I have heard in ages.
I would recommend watching/listening to get a bit of insight into the owners mindset. Liam Chew from the Lower League Look (big Bradford fan) was invited to offer his views on the recent Wagmi announcements.
I don't post much and have not been a supporter as long as some. I started when Francis Vines was manager and my father-in-law took me along. I think some on here tend to always look on the negative/dramatic side and consider myself to be quite patient and willing to give a new manager a fair chance. But after watching that video above, I have to admit I am very concerned. It's almost comical how Liam reacts to their comments in horror/disbelief/amusement whilst trying to gently but firmly tell them if they continue on the same route they will end of losing the fans. They nod and agree but clearly don't get it.
The main points summarised: - the reason we have stopped playing it out from the back is that the defenders signed to play this way are injured, presumably Conroy and the keeper Balcombe, maybe others? The present defenders are unable to/not ready to do it. My question would why have we recruited, so one dimensionally, that injuries to a defensive line mean we can't play the way the manager wants but have no alternative way of playing? I'm sure we all remember the defensive injury crisis we went through last year. Weird it's happening again? - they believe that the last time we tried signing a celebrity (Mark Wright) it worked, with him STARTING against Leeds in the cup??? - They were advised (by Liam) that most fans, if your team is losing with 15 to go, would expect the team to go more direct and get the ball in the box as much as possible. They said they can't do that as their forward line can't really compete in the air. - They followed this up by saying Bremang (5"11)and Chukwuemeka(6"2) were partially signed to give a more physical edge in situations when we need to go more direct which is a bit confusing as Bremang wasn't in the squad Saturday and Chukwuemeka was taken off with 22mins left??? So how they will help us in games when we're chasing, I don't know? -They know we have the least attacking threat/ shots)chances in the league, bar maybe 2 teams - When asked if they need a CEO, a football guy involved in offering advice, Liam suggested someone who has been in the game a long time, knows the league, the type of players, what is needed at this level... They originally suggested they have scouts who are very knowledgeable??? When Liam said that probably isn't quite what they need they said they have a few candidates who would be good but don't want to rush into anything.
There is more, have a watch and fee the fear. I have been quite impressed with the owners so far trying new ideas. But this video should not have been put out. In my opinion, it makes them look unaware, unknowledgeable and unable to provide real support for their new manager who is struggling. The suggestion that Liam tentatively makes about internet fans possibly making game-going fans less important/necessary is truly worrying especially given the reaction of the owners who did not appear to recognise the inherent danger in this.
What really rang alarm bells was not when we had a few fans having a go at the end of the 'large crowd' Orient game. I put this down to new fans, with unrealistic premiership expectations who believed the hype about us challenging for top 3. But the booing/comments aimed at the manager at the end of Doncaster by fans. These are the fans who travel the country, generally support unwaveringly, sing when we're losing and do it over and over, even the season a few years back when we didn't win away for months. If they're unhappy then the core fan base is really concerned and that can never be a good thing.
Saturday's game against Stevenage is not ideal. They play exactly the type of football which we struggle to cope with. The capitulation against Doncaster doesn't suggest confidence and resilience levels are high, another problem against a team full of confidence. And Evans will not be shy if he gets a victory against us. Betsy said we have key players coming back next week, but they haven't played for weeks. Yems loved to ease them back slowly, but what else can you do with so many long terms so I'd imagine they'd be on the bench on quite rusty if they start.
Finally, sorry for the mammoth message. I'm not necessarily saying Betsy should go. But something has to change. Does he need an advisor who knows how this league works? Someone who is at every game and can add the day to day consistency our owners, through no fault of their own, are unable to offer? I think they need to have sit down crisis talks to honestly look at what's happening and what they plan to do before the crowd forces the issue. Admittedly, Rochdale, Colchester and Hartlepool have all lost managers and at the moment is hadn't really changed their fortunes, although Rochdale won and Hartlepool have picked a few draws recently. I suppose the difference is we have had serious financial backing and they haven't so the pressure and the opportunity to change something is on us.
Fingers crossed we smash Stevenage at the weekend and go on a winning run that makes these comments seem foolish and panicky. Sadly at the moment, I can't see it happening.
thanks for posting this, very informative. It may indeed not have been great for the owners to be saying all they have, but one thing that is really refreshing is how open some of this all is even if there are alarm bells in among it all. Its never boring supporting Crawley Town.

So he says it wasn't a penalty but there was something about the way he said it that made you think he thought it was a penalty? I mean, come on, you can't turn words into the very opposite of their meaning, just laughable
He deliberately identifies it a key turning point in the game. Even the podcast guys whose work was advertised on this thread earlier who are critical of everything Crawley said the decision robbed us, jeez
Lol try and be a bit less intimidated by someone having an opinion that gasp differs from yours
You do see the irony in that statement right?
I can see the irony of you diving in for sure! Discuss the football eh rather than silly personal remarks, it makes for a more interesting read for everyone
I share your frustration, however can I just ask those who want Preston / WAGMI out where they propose the replacement money will come from ?
Just asking .... wasn't at the game / on iFollow.
Who has said anything about wagmi?
6 points from 30 it's understandable that people are calling for the managers head. The only people I hear saying anything about wagmi going are the people when they are defending Betsy.
Jim Baker
Well the podcast that you said you listened to for one, and which was posted on here by another forum member for general approval. It discussed Crawley for something around 10 minutes and I'm not sure it mentioned Betsy once bizarrely, just Wagmi did this wrong, Wagmi did that wrong, on and on and on etc etc got quite repetitive and pretty general

Steve, that was posted after I made my comment and in truth I did mean on this forum.
I dont do twitter and rarely touch Facebook so apart from posters on here defending Betsy by saying wagmi I haven't seen any of it. I still haven't apart from wagmi speaking about it and other people defending Betsy.

Sure - but obviously it was posted by someone on this forum who was definitely not in the "defending Betsy" camp

No it wasn't. It was posted by Andrew....or are you talking about the podcast thing?

"try and be a bit less intimidated by someone having an opinion that gasp differs from yours" You literally just posted the comment above, and then have the nerve to tell me to only discuss the football. Hypocrite much?

How long are you going to drag this out for? You haul these insults around from thread to thread, not just this one. I'm wondering what you get out of these silly online spats? They generally don't reflect well on people's personalties, I'm sure you must get that really.
My comment above was posted after someone made a random and unnecessary personal remark against me after what was an interesting discussion about the penalty incident. It's a shame. I had a disagreement with Jim over that too but he's a model of civility and you can disagree with him about football stuff and he won't make it personal. More people should adopt that approach really and this board would be a better place to read. I still don't know what you think about the penalty but I know you want to call me a hypocrite. Who cares, it's not interesting?
Remember how Mick Fox said he doesn't post here because of all the silly personal aggro? Recall how a few new overseas fans have registed here lately but they just disappear straight away? I think we all need to reflect on how we can make this messageboard a more welcoming place, yes a place where people can post strong opinions but really just draw the line at open insults

Yep the podcast. In fact much of the later pages of this thread have once again turned into a discussion of Wagmi rather than Betsy's management, see also the discussion about the owner's video
