Its still too early in the new Wagmi model to determine if they will be in it for the long term and we see the heady days of the premier league at some future date but what is already clear is that the number of web subscribers in one format or another will far outweigh those hardy souls turning up to watch the team. Of course, if we do progress upwards we are likely to get a new ground and a larger attendance but never at a level to compete with the online income stream.
Today in the Daily Mail there was an article on the success of a drink promoted by the Sidemen
just another example of the power of the online world.
For those young enough to be able to partake in what goes on, good luck, but for the many old fogeys like me it is another world and although I don't pretend to understand the drivers and the reasons for its success, the Wagmi model will use this and if successful the Wagmi brand becomes bigger than the club so.........
one day we may see
Liverpool 0 Wagmi United 1
Is the name important to you? Would you care if we were a successful premier team or would you rather stick to what we have always known and turn up for a cracker (very occasionally!) of a league 2 bottom half clash with whoever we are playing at the time?
Why does making the PL mean we have to change our name? Not that we will make the PL anytime soon. They can rename the Broadfield to the Wagmi Stadium or Camp Wagmi.
The club name has to have a reference to it’s location once it moves beyond a certain level.
Years ago Stamco progressed through the county leagues and into the southern league and had to add “St Leonard’s” to their name.
Port Vale?
The Hull City owner tried to change their name to Hull Tigers a few years ago and the FA vetoed it even though a majority of Hull City fans supported the name change.

From Wiki :-
Port Vale Football Club are a professional football club based in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, England, which compete in EFL League One. Vale are the only English Football League club not to be named after a place; their name being a reference to the “VALLEY OF THE PORTS” on the Trent and Mersey Canal.

A bit off topic and rather more sedate, I penned a rewording of a famous poem about the team in our relegation season a few years ago - inspired by a certain Mr Wordsworth joining us:
He wandered lonely as McLeod, filling holes in bare midfield, when all at once he saw the crowd, who behind the goal all milled, near the terrace, by red zone, poor Anthony, he played alone.
His silky skills were sublime, he showed the others how to play, they stretched in never-ending line, away attack to keep at bay: Two thousand fans voiced their ire, at a team stuck in the mire.
