The mid field of Powell and Hessenthaler cost us the game they were to slow releasing the ball and Powell was always looking to play the Hollywood pass when some time a quicker pass would have been better. Hessenthaler was terrible as well last night every pass was backwards, he never created one good move forward. If we want to move up or out of this league, then we need to get two good midfielders. I thought Lynch and the 700-man Craig did an excellent job.
I agree completely. Hessenthaler was awful but Lewis tends to stick with him and Powell no matter what happens. Not sure why Jenks was subbed, he seemed to be moving the ball around quite well. I find Nadesan quite frustrating; why does he insist on trying to block their keeper then once the ball is released trot back keeping himself offside - this is a complete waste. Lynch and Craig were terrific; 700 appearances is some career in football.
As mentioned before survival is our goal this season, no chance I think of even midtable unless we bring in a couple of decent players in and get everyone playing with a bit more cohesion. It was good to see Balagizi in the ground last night, we desperately need him back playing.
The only positive is in the Betsy days it would have probably have been a lame defeat rather than a point. The distance from 23rd place still needs increasing.

Yes we are too dangerously close to the drop zone.

I know it was the kind of game that fans hate to watch for the lack of excitement and entertainment - and I totally agree with that. But you can see why the Gills have got so many clean sheets this season and I don’t think it’s mainly our old boy given he wasn’t there on Tuesday. Great organisation at the back that only Tilley for about 10 or so minutes threatened to disrupt.
Might be an ok point at the end of the season.
Our job now is to get to the window and bring in some more options in central midfield. If the game is high tempo, Powell is ok. James B might or might not get back to top form. We need a couple of other good options, the others won’t get us past halfway in the table

Agree with most of what's been said, it was drab, listless, dull and uninspired. Youngy admitted as much after the game and suggested it was perhaps "one game too many", but it was disappointing given how apparently brilliant we were on Saturday prior to Ludi's red.
As mentioned by others, Lynch and Craig were fantastic, but aside from that I don't think a single other outfield player was anything more than fine, and most were poor.
There were a lot of needless passes backwards. It's necessary some of the time, of course, but it often feels like our players' first instinct is to pass it back, even if there's far more danger in that direction. More than once we passed it back, straight to a Gillingham player when there was more space in front. We repeatedly passed it from the halfway line to the backline and then to Balcombe, who then kicked it back to the halfway line and a Gillingham player won it because all our forward players are tiny.
The midfield has been a concern all season. I do think Jenks did well but Powell continues to frustrate and baffle, and Hess has been poor for a few games now. Just not sure what our midfield is supposed to be tbh, nobody seems to have a defined role, they just kind of pop up every now and again in random places. As said, Balagizi coming back will help but if there is any money for players in January, it has to be invested in experienced and/or purposeful midfielders.
Love all our strikers but still not sure we have figured out how to get the best out of them, not helped by the black hole of a midfield. Telford needs service and is getting zero, Nichols looked shattered last night and Nadderz also didn't get anything to run on to, though for some reason we gave Oteh about three through balls when he came on.
Hopefully the break will do us good, but we need to figure out what our tactics actually are by the time we come back because at times it seems like it's simply "You, do something individually amazing, now."

It's not just Lewis, Yems stuck with Hess and Powell in midfield every match he could. They were only absent from the team if they were injured. But that's probably due to the fact that we have barely any CMs. Francomb is used mainly at RB. So there were no other options really. Why this hasn't been addressed in recent transfer windows i have no idea. Yems preferred wingers/wing backs, KB continued that, although his signing of Balagizi was inspired and a godsend.
We desperately need Balagizi back, our midfield has about as much drive as a broken down Skoda. I think Francomb should be back in midfield too, although he had a shocker against Gillingham. We also need to sign a decent RB to enable Francomb to play further forwards.
What we need in mid field is a young Danny Bulman to play alongside Balagizi with two like that we would dominate matches and the forwards would have more chances.
