Where’s Steve? Missing his comments about how we are idiots for questioning Wagmi’s decisions! How we are idiots for questioning the summer signings? How we are idiots for questioning that running a football club based on stats is doomed to failure? Yes Steve you were right all along!!!!
Maybe not the time for point scoring (from us anyway!) I'd say that the Betsy supporters may well feel that his removal has orchestrated something far worse!
Well I think if Betsy was still here we'd have been bottom of the league still. Thank god Lewis Young was able to get a few decent results to steer us away from drop zone to give us a fighting chance of survival. I don't think we played well in any of the 3 games during the brief tenure of Etherington, but I don't think he can take the blame fully for that given it was such a short tenure.
none jump out to me and say bite his hand off - GET LEWIS YOUNG BACK HERE!
I think we can all agree that this is a shambles whatever our individual thoughts on personnel both past and present (mine is no to Young).
Its possible the new model is still working for Wagmi at many levels but at our level its a complete debacle.
What happened between Etherington, Wagmi and the DoF I'm not privy too but I would hope we can all unite on whoever is appointed and NOT start looking to breakdown the management structure even if we don't think it is working.
The team need supporting now and we must be there for the players and put our energies into the positive support of whoever wears the shirt.
He’s on twitter, pretty much echoed what people are saying here. Get Lewis Back, get Yems in charge of recruitment and get a proper CEO. Erdem was in a twitter space with the lower league look and pretty much said our priority should be getting 50/55 points to be SAFE. Much like John used to parrot in interviews.
Lewis is as much a rookie as the last two. He started well but again didn't get time to prove his ability. No thanks from me and I'd hope his p[ride would keep him away
You do seem to sleepwalk through the season. The only half decent football we've played has been under Lewis Young. We were poor under Betsy, often atrocious. The players just weren't buying in to what he was trying to do. We hit rock bottom. He had lost the confidence of the players. It was only going to end one way. Young, however, had the team playing for him. It was working. Performances and results massively improved. Yes there were a couple of below par matches, but Young had the same continual injury problems as KB, and Yems before him. Yet he still managed to steady the ship, and instill belief and confidence into not just the players, but the fans as well. He knows the club inside out, the players respect him, i really don't understand why you wouldn't want him back. We honestly aren't going to entice any half decent manager to come to us. I don't think for a minute it will happen, sadly. I genuinely fear for the club's future.
Any club that is going to be successful needs a clear playing/signing strategy, even if it’s ugly like Sutton. They are a great example of a club where you can see the entire club signing players in the same style the manager wants and that suit the way they play.
I feel like I don’t even know what a good signing for this club looks like anymore as we have lost any kind of playing style/identity. I think that’s reflected in our wasteful transfer dealings both in and out since WAGMI.
I think that at the start, the club did have a decent signing strategy - bring in some decent players, plus a number of young prospects that could develop by playing regularly in a B Squad so that over the next couple of years, we’d have them feeding into the main squad.
Problem is that due to injuries early on (and having loaned out players who could have easily filled those positions) we’ve had to rely on those younger players who are not ready for the rough and tumble of League 2. Nor have we really set up a B squad properly, so the young prospects aren’t getting the chance to develop.
With the constant revolving door of managers, the players must be as confused and dispirited as the fans.
Any signing strategy we started off with in the summer seems to be in tatters. We desperately need an experienced manager and decent signings in the transfer window. It’s unclear whether we’ll get either. The next month will be vital.
I see what you’re saying but even if there was strategy it was hard to spot and there were some red flags for me with Glen, Jordan and Kwesi going. Goals and proven L2 reliability were lost. Not quite the spine but I don’t think we ever really recovered from this.

I would have him back, even if in a role that isn't manager. Was so surprised when he left, you'd have thought having him around would still be highly benefitial even if he wasn't the right person for the manager job in the long term

Betsy thought he didn't need experienced L2 players. He thought he could win with tippy tappy football and a bunch of academy kids. It took our owners forever to realise it wasn't working. Unfortunately KB had been allowed to bin off some of our best and most experienced players. Things only got worse from then on.

I still cannot believe we got rid of our TOP SCORER and one of the top saving keepers in the division. It’s embarrassing .
Must admit, that is what I was just wondering too.
I’m sure he won’t mind me saying this but Thad has deliberately been keeping away from this forum and concentrating his energies on other areas of his life. That’s not to say he is not interested in what is going on and he called out this bunch of clowns for what they were months ago over what they did to John Yems.
"Matthew and Simon both impressed me during the recruitment process and it was clear to see that their ambitions match those of the club" - Chris Galley 27th November.
"It has become clear to all involved parties that this partnership is not the right fit to carry the club forward and achieve our goals" - Chris Galley 29th December.
Either Chris must enjoy making a total fool of himself or he has also been hung out to dry. Regardless, the trap door should open underneath him.
This would suggest to me there are two most likely scenarios;
1) Etherington and Davies have decided that they don't want the hassle of the job or it isn't what they are looking for
2) Etherington and Davies are not getting what was discussed/promised during the recruitment so have decided their positions are untenable and decided to jump ship accordingly
Given that there was a period of about 6 or 7 weeks between Betsy being sacked and them being appointed I would think that both parties would have had more then enough time to discuss expectation and requirements for the role etc. so I think scenario 2 is more likely, but I will await and see what answers if any we get from WAGMI.
Indeed Alex. I would say a bit of both plus:
3) We were not told that Chris Galley was picking the team using xG and Opta Stats.
Bradford dodged a bullet and so did Etherington & Davies.
One interesting aspect is whether they were fired or quit (I know its all dressed up in 'mutual agreement' clauses). Paid off Betsy a few months into a 2 year deal and now Etherington gone 32 days into an 18 month contract. Expensive mistakes by clueless owners.

Its an age thing Northgate!! I'd welcome him back in a coaching capacity and can't disagree he had a short term boost but really feel we need somebody with experience to see us through but can't disagree again with the point you make about who would want to come if they were any good!
