Jaap Stam's Reading beaten on penalties in the Championship play-off by David Wagner's Huddersfield, who many experts felt would spend the season in a relegation struggle...
..the heroes were their goalie - on loan from Liverpool who clearly don't need a decent keeper - who saved a crucial penalty in the shootout (he had done similar in the shootout against Sheffield Wednesday to get them to Wembley) and a winning penalty from a German (surprise surprise).
One statistic to note: They become the first team to be promoted with a negative goal difference.
Fantastic achievement by Huddersfield to reach the Premier League!
Looking at their seasons statistics make for some interesting reading- as thad said they had a negative goal difference, conceded more goals than relegated Wigan and scored less goals than Forest who finished outside the relegation zone on goal difference. In other words, most of their games were decided by 1 goal and more often than not they ended up on the winning side. Add to that, they won the semi final and final of the play offs on penalties. EXTREMELY fine margins got them promoted. Shows that you don't need a lot of money to promoted, you just to be organised and 'play the percentages'.
There were teams like Norwich who scored goals for fun and spent some big money, but didn't even end up in the play offs.
I'm not sure that even RR&R could moan about this one.. any Huddersfield fans who have had season tickets since 2009 will be able to buy one for £100 to watch them next season in the Premier League.

Does it include pre-season friendlies?
Will they get a 'special' with their Crystal palace ticket stub next season?
