How does that work when reducing costs, because surely they must be paid up until end of contract anyway. Or can a lower sum be paid if receiving a wage from a non-league club?

Mutual agreement is the usual term offered. Not the whole contract paid up but a percentage of the outstanding amount and free to join another club.
Sadly another player has left where it hasn't worked out. No disrespect to the player, but our recruitment over the last few years has been shocking. Too many players in the squad and too many who don't play.
Apart from Max Watters and Panutche Camara, how many players have we signed from non league that have gone on to become regulars and make an impact over the last 10 years?
We'd be better off having a squad of 20-25 with 4-5 punts on some youngsters and players from non league not a squad of 40 with 15-20 players nowhere near the first team.
